Gary Ballance and Joe Root will miss Yorkshire’s County Championship trip to Durham on Sunday after their England one-day call-ups.

The batting pair are in line to play in next Friday’s one-day international against Scotland, having been selected in a 13-man party by new coach Peter Moores.

The squad, which also includes captain Alastair Cook and Jimmy Anderson, will train at Loughborough for two days before flying to Aberdeen.

While Root captained Yorkshire against Middlesex at Lord’s, Ballance is the leading run-scorer in Division One with 406 runs from three matches.

It is not all bad news for Yorkshire, however, with Tim Bresnan and Jonny Bairstow on course to return against Durham from rest and injury respectively.

Bresnan came through a Roses second XI match earlier this week, while Bairstow did likewise for Yorkshire’s Academy against Sedbergh School on Wednesday, having broken a finger at the start of last month.

Bairstow will play two second XI Twenty20 matches against Lancashire at Headingley tomorrow and for the Academy against Sheffield Collegiate on Saturday.

Andrew Gale will captain Yorkshire against Durham having left himself out at Lord’s.
