Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway Club were hampered by missing riders as they slipped to defeat in successive matches.

The absence of Polish international Pawel Idziorek and 2013 Combination League winner Jake Wood proved insurmountable as Heck lost 93-57 at home to Northumbria Vikings.

Heckmondwike’s junior under-13s team made partial amends by scoring an amazing 70 points, with Northumbria only fielding one rider and scoring five points.

The following match saw Heck travel to Stockport still without key members and, against mainly elite riders, the visitors went down 100-50.

But Heck’s juniors came up trumps again by winning with 27 points against Stockport’s 23.

It was a similar story as Heckmondwike travelled to Hull for the second round of the Northern Fours League with a team that had to be bolstered by two juniors.

Heck finished fourth of the six competing teams, with Darren Kent taking a tumble in one of his heats and injuring his shoulder but still managing to complete his last three races.
