Another underwhelming performance!

Typical end of season game, with nothing to pay for.

The first half was as boring as any I've seen this season.

You wouldn't believe some of these lads were playing for a new contract.

As ever, Stephen Darby was the notable exception. The easiest ever choice for player of the season.

Great to see the crawley player lay a scarf and wreath behind the Kop end goal prior to the game. Means alot.

Very poor first half from 2 teams who had nothing left to play for.

Poor second half to in honest but a few goals and a positive result papered over the cracks but in a meaningless game it's sort of expected.

A good solid season and thought turn to next season and another in league 1 which when you consider we had finished 18th in league 2, 2 years ago you have to be happy with the progress we have made.

Very good win against a decent side...back to back home wins as well...56 points and only 15 defeats all season...now onto the Cup Final for Tranmere Rovers which will really give us a test before the rebuild begins...but overall well done City for attaining 13th with one to play...completely comparable with the last time they had a season in league 3 following promotion from the fourth division. .1982-83..finished 12th! Finished 7th the season after so perhaps much to look forwards to? Today we commemorated the tragic events of
1985...when City became Champions of the division and the fire struck...30 years next May...let's hope we can repeat the championship success, however
unlikely that is...which really would be the most fitting way to aee that anniversary take place.

Typical end of season game, with 2 sides having nothing to play for, and it's therefore virtually impossible to draw any firm conclusions, but I see some people have still found the excuse to have a good moan, which I put down to potential withdrawal symptoms, as they won't have anything to complain about over the next few months!

If people are going to criticisise though, let's look at the performances of the players who were out of contract.

You can only judge a keeper's performance on what the opposition throw at him, and McLaughlin has had very little to do.

Darby and McArdle I thought were excellent and our two best players.

I will admit that De Vita was largely anonymous, but after being out for a lengthy period, he was always gonna struggle with 3 games in just over a week, and I thought he was excellent against Peterbro'.

Jones showed the level of commitment that has endeared him to City fans.

Doyle played the through ball for Mclean's goal.

Thompson scored the winner.

Believe me 1903, the moaning wont stop just because the football does. The timing and quality of every signing will be criticised, the pre season fixtures, the new kit...the moaning from the ill-informed will never stop.

City battled hard to their win. Both teams kept it tight and we SHOULD be pleased to get the three points. The problem is, another win doesnt help some of our fans agenda because we were going to lose all of our remaining games and get relegated....looking a bit silly now some of the whingers so they are focusing on the lack of brazilian flair instead.

well done pp and all the coaching team for achieving our objective and good luck with your planning for next season.

Some people are easily pleased.

Do you actually go to the games?

More care needs to be taken with recruitment., not merely "luck" as you're naively suggesting.

Thats right Pablo. We must only sign players who never, get injured, never get ill, never lose form, dont get signed by other clubs, are happy with the wages we can afford, score with every shot, have a 100% pass completion etc.

I am easily pleased with a mid table finish and a chance to go again. If you cant be happy when we win, when can you be. Face it Pablo, football is not a game that provides sublime entertainment every week. City have shown massive commitment in most games this season, have had some good moments and have achieved the main objective. If the football has to be dull at times then so be it. You would instantly want change if we were losing regularly even if we played like Barcelona.

So, 2013/14 will soon be a memory or series of memories. After last year, it was bound to be 'after the lord mayor's show' but overall, staying up without having to be involved in a relegation scrap-a real one-we have to say the team overall passed the Lge One test. Of course Nahki Wells (though he left in January) helped to get that result more than most other players, but ...what about those other players?

Time for an end of term report. No scores for 'effort' as that is harder for the supporter to glean. These grades are for performance (in the opinion of one supporter). Other fans are bound to disagree as it's all subjective. Obviously it's hard to compare a player who'se played many games eg McArdle with one who hasn't like de Vita but....here goes!

Top grade is A+ and bottom is E

McLaughlin: C+
Darby: A
McArdle : C+
Davies: B
Meredith:: C
Reid: C-
Jones: B
Doyle C+
Reach: B-
Bennet: C
Hanson: B+
Wells A+
McLean: C
de Vita: D
Thompson: C-
Carl McHugh: C
Yeates: D
McBurnie: C
Drury: B-
Folan: E
Ravenhill: C-
Connell: D+
Oliver: D+
Bates: C-
Kennedy: D
Taylor: D
Gray: D

Knight, naturally I'm delighted we retained our League 2 status.

Maybe, the good start to the season spoilt me. I could accept the long ball then because, with the Hanson /Wells understanding and Nahki's speed and finishing prowess, it provided exciting and effective football, that was difficult to defend against.

Without Wells the team has looked bland and in many of the games I've attended it's been difficult to see where a goal is going to come from. In PP's defence, losing Reid was also a major loss as he was the only other pacey player in the squad and our attack has looked pedestrian without the two of them.

I think you forgot we were in League One...perhaps that is why I am happier.

Pp has done what he needed to. Dealing with a sulky wells and then losing him and also dealing with long term injuries to Meredith, Reid and Davies has made it difficult. Now he can start again.
