Paul Walker set to miss out on milestone for Bradford Park Avenue

A long journey awaits Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday for their final game of a long season as they face a 350-mile plus round trip to Oxford City.

In the city of the dreaming spires, Avenue will be dreaming of a top-ten finish in Skrill Conference North.

John Deacey’s Bradford know a victory will seal their current position but even the manger is unsure who will be fit for the final push.

The tough campaign has taken its toll on Deacey’s small squad and, ahead of the last fixture, the queue for the treatment table is longer than the list of names the manager has to select his team from.

The Bradford boss’ son Jordan is a major doubt. The midfielder aggravated a long-term knee injury in the warm-up for Easter Monday’s home game against Stalybridge Celtic, and the side missed his guile.

Deacey said after that game that the team had lost its ‘talisman’, and that there were several other players ruled out and some on the bench who would not have been risked.

The manager said: “Jordan was going to play and was on the teamsheet but we had to withdraw him before kick-off. He is one of a number of players who have been playing through an injury.

“We will have to see how Jordan is and Nathan (Hotte) and Alex (Davidson) on Saturday morning. They won’t all make it and Paul Walker is unavailable this weekend so we really will be down to the very bare bones.”

Jamie Price was forced off through injury after just four minutes of the second half, and striker Chib Chilaka, the Avenue’s goal scorer in the 1-1 draw, was also substituted late on.

Walker’s absence will ruin his run of consecutive games for the club. He has not missed a first-team game since signing for the club at the start of last season, and will fall two short of 100 appearances games on the trot for the Horsfall Stadium club.

Price would also be robbed of a milestone if he fails to recover from injury as he in on 99 appearances for the club.

Keeper John Lamb is likely to play so he may be the only ever present this term.
