Keighley starlet Muhammad Ali is already plotting his revenge after claiming a silver medal at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Bulgaria.
The 17-year-old lost in the flyweight final to highly-rated American southpaw Shakur Stevenson – but plans to get his own back in China later this year.
Ali, who has already been picked for the Great Britain squad, tweeted afterwards: “I’m just disappointed (but) the guy kept holding on to me. Oh well, (I’ll) just train even harder and beat him in the Youth Olympics.”
His slippery opponent from New Jersey, who was the gold-medal favourite, denied Ali a sixth straight win in Sofia. In doing so the 16-year-old Stevenson became the first American to win both junior and youth world titles.
He said: "It was the ugliest win ever but I got the gold medal."
Ali missed out on the chance of keeping the 52kg medal at Bradford College. Two years ago, it was won by fellow student Olly Wilson in Armenia.
It has still been an amazing run for Ali, who has been tipped as a future pro by coach Mike Jelley.
Ali has won English and British titles this year and his progress in Bulgaria automatically earned him a slot in the GB squad for the Youth Olympics in Nanjing from August 16-28.
