Cleckheaton pace bowler Iain Wardlaw led the way for Scotland as they defeated the MCC by one wicket at Lord's yesterday.

Former Yorkshire bowler Wardlaw took 3-27 as his adopted country warmed up for next month's one-day international against England.

The Saltires face the Auld Enemy in Aberdeen on May 9 and gave several of their regulars a run out, as well as debutant Andrew Umeed following his impressive displays at the Under-19s World Cup.

Skipper Calum MacLeod won the toss and put the MCC in as they sought to make the most of the overcast conditions.

His ploy worked as the home side were bowled out for just 149 after 37.1 overs, Alasdair Evans backing Wardlaw up with 3-29.

Former Scotland internationals Jamie Kerr and Gregor Maiden were among the best with the bat for the MCC but their scores of 29 and 23 respectively were not enough to save them from trouble.

In reply, MacLeod struck a quickfire 23 from 15 deliveries to get the Scots off to a fast start.

Tom Koppleman and Keith Dutch both claimed three wickets for the home side but it was Majid Haq's 28 which put Scotland on course for victory as they finished on 152-9 after 46.1 overs.
