Tyersal pulled off the surprise of the season in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division with a 2-1 win at second-placed Bay Athletic.

The win was courtesy of a stunning 85th-minute goal from 40-plus veteran Alan Morley Snr, who, after spotting Bay keeper Graham McLachlan off his line, hit a shot from just inside the halfway line over his head and into the net.

Earlier in the first half Any Salm had deservedly put the home side ahead, before Tyersal levelled in the second period through Wayne Wright.

Leaders Ovenden West Riding saw their chances of lifting the championship trophy increase after beating Campion 5-1.

Andy Bailey and John Booth both netted twice to add to a Robbie Graham effort, whilst Ben Omelia netted for Campion in the first half.

Hall Green United – who have been rooted to the foot of the table for most of the season – delayed confirmation of their possible relegation with a 2-1 home victory over Steeton, with Lee Speight and Kyle Warden netting for the Wakefield side before Adam Spencer scored for Steeton.

Hunsworth moved closer to regaining their place in the top flight after beating Westbrook YMCA 3-1 in Division One. Andy Wood, Lee McKeown and Stuart McCallum hit the target.

Mirfield-based Lower Hopton have played two games more than Hunsworth and stay two points adrift in second following their 4-3 home victory over Wibsey.

Wakefield City kept up their chances of finishing in the runners-up spot with a 1-0 success at bottom club Bay Athletic Reserves.
