Albion Sports 3 Liversedge 2

Albion Sports ensured a top-eight finish in their first season in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division with a derby win over Liversedge.

It was Sedge’s third game against neighbouring clubs on the bounce and, following their 2-1 home loss to Thackley, it was their second single goal defeat on the trot.

Albion were expected to win at home against 20th-placed Sedge but, after being gifted an early lead, they trailed their visitors at the break.

Tom Jackson put through his own goal in the third minute but Eli Hey levelled for the visitors midway through the first half and a Brook Newton strike gave them an interval lead.

Liam Ormsby put Albion back on level terms and Danny Facey netted a stoppage-time winner for the home side.

Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “We left it late but I think we deserved it because we had a lot of pressure in the second half and created a lot of chances.

“In the first half we were very poor. We lacked effort, desire – whatever you want to call it we lacked it.

“It was a typical end-of-season game but we came out all guns blazing in the second half and it was a good local derby.”
