Bradford’s Dean Harrison (RC Express Racing) got his 2014 road racing season underway with a brace of podiums at Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough.

Harrison claimed second and third-place finishes in the two Superbike races on board the team’s 1000cc ZX-10R Kawasaki.

He finished 4.1 seconds behind Guy Martin in race one and, in the Ian Watson Trophy Superbike race that followed, Suzuki rider Martin triumphed once again, with Harrison having to settle for the final place on the podium behind Ivan Lintin.

Harrison said: “You always want to win but for our first meeting of the year, I’m pleased with how I went.

“The Superbike’s an absolute missile in a straight line but we’ve a new electronics package on board this year and while I’m getting used to it all the time, I’m not quite up to speed with it yet.

“I’m learning all the time but Scarborough’s obviously a circuit where you’re up and down the gearbox all the time and a couple of times the bike jumped out of third gear, which was just enough to hold me back from getting onto the rear wheel of Guy.”

“Each time I go out on the bike, I’m happier and more comfortable and we know what areas to work on.”

The team’s next outing is scheduled to be Oulton Park in two weeks’ time in what will be their final preparation prior to the International North West 200, which takes place from May 13 to 17.
