Bradford Salem 67, Baildon 0

Bradford Salem moved up into second place in SSE Yorkshire Division Two after a crushing 67-0 victory over basement club Baildon at Shay Lane.

Salem piled on the pressure in the opening minutes and took an early 7-0 lead when second-rower Rhys Green dived over in the corner to score his first try of the season, full back Danny Belcher adding the touchline conversion.

From there on, it was one-way traffic, and further tries from Kiwi No 8 Kris Falwasser and scrum half Matt Child, both improved by Belcher, gave the home side a 21-0 advantage after only ten minutes.

Next on the scoresheet was centre Tom Barnes, and when second-rower John Morrell galloped over from 30 metres to increase his side's lead to 33 points, a cricket score was looking increasingly likely.

Salem began to run the ball from everywhere and Baildon found it difficult coping with the pace of the game.

Gaps were appearing out wide, and winger Adam Sutcliffe helped himself to a hat-trick of tries within a ten-minute period to give the Heaton side a massive 50-0 lead at the break.

To their credit, Baildon never let their heads drop and, with the wind in their favour, they started to put some patterns together in the second half.

However, they were unable to break down the resolute Salem defence and went 57-0 behind when fly half Andy Robinson dummied his way over from close range.

Baildon continued to compete but were unable to get the score they probably deserved.

Salem, on the other hand, were guilty of becoming over-confident and forced passes led to an increasing number of handling errors.

Despite this, Salem still managed further scores from Belcher and Damien Pearson to seal an emphatic 67-0 win and finish their home league campaign on a high.
