Adam Lyth and Gary Ballance both scored centuries for Yorkshire during today's second day of their three-day friendly against Leeds/Bradford MCC Universities at Headingley.

On another weather interrupted day, the hosts replied to 139 with 366-5 from 104 overs, with the left-handed duo the standout performers of the day.

Opener Lyth top-scored with 130 off 227 balls, while Ballance hit 101 off 154. Jonny Bairstow batted nicely to reach 61 not out when bad light stopped play at 5.10pm.

For England Test batsman Ballance, this was his third successive first-class century in Yorkshire colours, having scored two in the final LV= County Championship match of last season against Surrey at the Oval.

Since then, he has taken possession of a place in England’s Test middle order, having played the final Test of the winter Ashes series in January.

There were failures for Jack Leaning (13) and Adil Rashid, who made a duck. But Yorkshire will be satisfied with their performance with ball and bat across the first two days of the season.

It would put the icing on the cake if they can win the match tomorrow.
