Bradford’s billiards team ended the season with a disappointing 5-2 defeat at home to Doncaster in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

In the first game, Doncaster’s Michael Leach made a break of 87, sandwiched between two 50s from Paul Devitt, who won 200-167 to secure two points for Bradford.

Doncaster’s Dave Parker included a break of 45 in a 200-107 victory over Stephen Kershaw, who just couldn’t keep his opponent away from the table.

Steve Wilman had a break of 47 and was looking good at 181-146, but Laurence Torn fought back to edge the game 200-195 to give Doncaster victory.

The Bradford No 1 snooker side could clinch the Division One title on Sunday (7.30pm) at Undercliffe Cricket Club, when the side takes on Sheffield No 3.

With two matches to go, three frames this week will secure back-to-back titles.

In Division Two, Bradford No 2 could be promoted on Saturday at Brighouse (7.30pm) if results go their way. Winning the last two matches will guarantee them going up, however.

* Jason Devanney, Paul Devitt and Chris Jarvis will be battling it out on Saturday for the last place in the semi-finals of the Bradford Billiards Championship.

All three finished level in the group phase of the competition and will now play a round-robin at Cue Gardens, starting at 1.30pm. The winner joins Mark Hirst, Richard Lodge and Trevor Kershaw.

* The draw for the Bradford Snooker Pairs has been made and will see 2005 champions Mark Slater and Jason Murgatroyd (Clayton Libs) taking on this year’s surprise duo of Terry McDonald and Sonny Sandhu (Undercliffe Cricket).

The other tie is an all-Undercliffe affair, with Josh Walker and Adam Tipper playing Wayne Cooper and Kevin Firth.

Both matches will be played on neutral tables over the coming weeks.

* The Hey’s Trophy semi-final first legs take place next week, with Upper Bolton Cons A taking on Undercliffe Cricket B and Tong Liberals facing Windhill Cons B.

The Hopkinson Plate semi-finals will also be played next Thursday. East Ward play Harold Club B and Clayton Rugby B do battle with their A team.
