City failed to get a shot on target as Craig Westcarr’s second-half double made for a miserable night at Valley Parade.
Andrew Davies nodded just wide but that was as close as the home side came in a very poor performance.
Westcarr broke the deadlock after 68 minutes when he diverted Andrew Taylor’s cross beyond Jon McLaughlin.
And he struck again ten minutes later from the edge of the box to leave the Bantams still on the fringes of the survival fight.
The boos at the final whistle showed what the fans thought.
Final whistle greeted with boos all round
Reach cross scrambled away. No sign of a shot on target as yet
Three more added minutes to put up with...
Walsall in no hurry to take a rare corner. They don't need to rush
Jones replaced by Dolan, 81 min
Could be game over now as WESTCARR cuts in from the right and clips left-footer over McLaughlin from edge of the box. 2-0 Walsall
Meanwhile, Brandy crosses low and Westcarr is inches away from a second.
Brandy then makes way for McQuilkin
Everyone went up for it but the ball skims off McArdle's head
At least City have a corner...
Grim, grim, grim
Good save from McLaughlin to deny curler from Baxendale
Walsall in front as WESTCARR touches home Taylor's low cross...
The crowd is 12,165 with 149 from Walsall
A second City corner - and here comes Hanson to huge cheers. Gray off
Gray apparently got booked for something he said
Thompson coming on for Bennett, who has been poor
Another moment of indecision at the back as McLaughlin forced to clear into touch
The Kop are trying to do their bit to get this game going
That's better from Reach. First real attack of intent from the winger and he wins a corner... cue the noise
Walsall make a change, Baxendale for Lalkovic
Gary Jones is keen to get restarted, he's sprinting back out. Hopefully there will be more of that in City's play this half.
Zzzzzzzzzz #bcafc— @MonkeyJabba 25 March 2014
Wifi drops off - or more likely nods off at the end of a dour first half.
At last a run from Bennett but his cross is behind intended target Gray
A mix-up in the City box as McArdle leaves a ball for his keeper who scrambles the ball away from Westcarr
Is this a friendly... Because we're playing like it's one! Shocking #bcafc— @Paulus8608 25 March 2014
Mclean almost wriggles his way through as Downing slips but the defender recovers to clear off the floor
Walsall knocking the ball round nicely but not really getting anywhere. Lalkovic's cross flicks off Darby but McLaughlin catches above his head.
Jones floats free-kick into the box where Davies booms a downward header just past the post. Closest moment so far
It's played short to Taylor whose cross is spectacularly cleared with a diving header from Darby
Westcarr's free-kick takes deflection in the wall for a Walsall corner
Sawyers wrong-foots Bates and wins a Walsall free-kick 30 yards out, dead centre
Mclean picks up pass from Bates, swivels and fires from 25 yards out. But it's high and wide
Applause for Hanson as he goes for a jog along the touchline with the subs
Game going on to a backdrop of Midland Road from the Kop
Bennett plays Bates into trouble with a blind pass just outside his own box but Darby is there to tidy up
Bustling run from Jones to pick out Reach but he scuffs the cross and it is cleared away
Great block from Drury to foil Adam Chambers' volley after centre halves fail to deal with Taylor's cross-bound. That was goal-bound til the left back got in the way
Good skills from Bennett get the atmosphere going
Walsall kick off towards the Kop. City won the toss then...
Play-off final referee Keith Stroud ready to get us underway...
The teams are shaking hands and ready to rumble. Can City win the toss this time and kick towards the Kop second half?
I might be the only person in the world to think this but Andy Gray is going to win the game for us. #bcafc— @BCGaz 25 March 2014
Andy Gray double and City to win 2-1. #believe #bcafc— @DazWheelhouse 25 March 2014
Walsall have named the same side that drew 1-1 with Leyton Orient at the weekend.
Nine of their team started the 2-0 City win at the Bescot in October.
WALSALL: O'Donnell, Taylor, Butler, Downing, A Chambers, Mantom, J Chambers, Lalkovic, Brandy, Sawyers, Westcarr. Subs: Purkiss, Featherstone, Baxendale, Hewitt, McQuilkin, Ngoo, Roberts.
Where the hell is Oli Mcburnie??!!!!!!! Bates could surprise a few tonight though, he runs with the ball really well #bcafc— @ChrisHilton83 25 March 2014
James Hanson is on the bench after feeling another tweak in his back.
So Andy Gray makes only his second start of the season up front alongside Aaron Mclean.
Gary Jones comes back in for the injured Nathan Doyle and he will be partnered in central midfield by Matthew Bates. The defender has played the holding role quite a bit in the past for Middlesbrough in the Premier League.
CITY: McLaughlin, Darby, McArdle, Davies, Drury, Bennett, Bates, Jones, Reach, Mclean, Hanson. Subs: Dolan, Hanson, Thompson, Yeates, McHugh, Atkinson, Bentley.
@bcafcmark It's a perfect night for football & I reckon we might score three or four. I'm just hoping Warsaw don't score five. #bcafc— @Zak_Myers 25 March 2014
Good evening and welcome from Valley Parade as City look to complete the double over Walsall.
There's not much of a buzz about the place at the moment. The only people here seem to be the Walsall players looking at the pitch.
