Wibsey Warriors booked their place in the semi-finals of the Pennine President’s Cup thanks to a superb 16-4 victory over Thornhill Trojans.

The Warriors made home advantage count at Northfield Road as their powerful pack took the game to the visitors.

CJ Vogel was in inspired form in the second row and his two tries proved crucial in guiding the Warriors through.

The big forward was unstoppable as he opened the scoring after coming on to a flat ball 15 yards out to crash over.

The home side were then 12-0 to the good when that man Vogel received another flat pass close to the Trojans’ line and steamrollered his way over.

The Dewsbury outfit were struggling with the pace and power of Vogel and fellow forwards Mike Kite and Neil Walker and were lucky to be just 12 points adrift at the break.

The Trojans struck first in the second half, however the Warriors re-established their advantage when hooker Neil Sutcliffe scored with his first touch after leaving the bench.

Sutcliffe, returning after a month’s injury lay-off, picked up the ball and ran 40 yards to touch down, prompting the home supporters to go wild.

Second-row forward Walker rightly took the man of the match award and he was ably supported by strong-running full back Jimmy Waddington.

Only fellow Premier Division side Queens now stand in the way of the Warriors going all the way to the cup final.

Speaking after the game, coach Jason Hirst said: “We have no qualms with the draw, we are just happy to have the game at home.”

The Warriors run out against Queens on April 5, while Sharlston Rovers do battle with Methley Royals in the second semi-final.
