Bradford blitzed by father and son billiards pair
Right on Cue
Bradford’s billiards team crashed to a 7-0 defeat against rampant hosts Huddersfield No 1 in the Yorkshire Inter-District League.
Matthew Peaker was soon into his stride with a break of 74 against John McEachran, and an unfinished break of 44 took him to a 200-78 victory over the Bradford player.
Steve Wilman, deputising for the unavailable Stephen Kershaw, kept close to Steve Whiteley in the early stages but a break of 39 pulled the Huddersfield man clear and, despite a run of 34, Wilman fell short by 200-146.
Dave Peaker almost emulated his son with an early break of 65, which gave him the confidence to power away from Paul Devitt for a 200-113 scoreline which wrapped up the Huddersfield whitewash.
* The Bradford Billiards Championships get underway at Cue Gardens in Odsal on Saturday. Entry is on the day, with players asked to register at 11.30am ahead of matches starting at noon.
The entry fee is £12 and there will be round-robin group games of one hour. Anyone wishing to find out more can contact Stephen Kershaw on 07815-014198.
* Bradford’s two snooker sides are both in Yorkshire Inter-District League action on Sunday.
Defending champions and leaders Bradford No 1 take on second-placed Leeds at Undercliffe Cricket Club, hoping to extend their five-point advantage at the Division One summit.
Bradford No 2 will be looking for a good result to push them towards their promotion goal as they host Wakefield No 1 at Cue Gardens. Both matches are due to start at 7.30pm.
* Two quarter-final snooker ties have been played in the Bradford Pairs Championship, with both going to the wire.
Josh Walker and Adam Tipper, of Undercliffe Cricket Club, edged out Low Moor WMC duo Elliott Glover and Chris Morton 3-2, which was also the score as Terry McDonald and Sonny Sandhu (Undercliffe Cricket Club) beat Simon Jackson and Darren Goy (Eccleshill Victoria Cons).
* The second round of the E Rosse Hopkinson Plate gets underway tomorrow. Return legs take place next week.
