Heavyweight prospect Ben Chapman is promising an explosive bill-topper at Cleckheaton amateur club’s annual boxing show.

The 27-year-old has revenge on his mind when he squares off against Hebden Bridge opponent Rico Hutton, who beat him in his debut contest.

Both men share a 5-1-4 record and Cleckheaton coach Keith Tate is predicting a cracker on the 12-bout show at the Cedar Court Hotel on Friday, April 4.

Tate said: “It’s going to be very exciting. The first time they faced each other brought the house down.

“Ben has got something there. He beat Jack Butler of Immingham ABC in his last bout on a clear points decision and I’ve had him sparring at Henry Wharton’s gym – and he thinks Ben can go pro.

“He has got tremendous power but he also boxes. He’s got good footwork as well, which you don’t always get from a heavyweight.”

Tate has just returned from Dublin where he accompanied 11-year-old Khalid Ayup, who claimed a unanimous victory as part of a Yorkshire select team.

Cleckheaton’s Callum Grace won his second Yorkshire schools title after beating Billy Gibson (Bridlington).

Grace, who reached the national semi-finals last year, now goes through to box against the Midland Counties this weekend in Wakefield.

Meanwhile, Ishmail Khan claimed a notable victory over England international William Cawlty in the Oldham boxer’s own club show. But Bilal Ali lost his Yorkshire final against Kirk Jackson.
