Scott Driscoll scored twice as Calverley United secured their Senior B section status for next season with a 3-1 home win against St Bede’s in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Gary Trewhitt was also on target as Calverley led 2-0 at the interval on their way to sealing a fifth victory in six games that leaves them a comfortable seventh in the table.

James Gilmartin replied late on for second-bottom St Bede’s, who have much work to do if they are to stay up as well.

St Bede’s Reserves almost guaranteed their Division Two safety with a 2-1 home win over basement side Bainbridge.

A penalty opener for Bainbridge caused a few worries but superb finishing from Ross Jones and Admir Zenkovic eased the tension.

Grangefield OB Reserves, who are well behind in their fixtures, picked up a handy 1-1 draw at second-placed Almondburians as they look to stay in the promotion hunt.

Andy Maybank gave the visitors an early lead but this was cancelled out by a penalty, although Almondburians missed a second spot-kick as they looked to snatch victory.

Calverley United Reserves were emphatic 9-1 winners at Division Three basement side East Ardsley Wanderers as they all but ensured they will remain out of the drop zone.

The Calverley hero was 41-year-old Kev Brown, who was called out of retirement and scored five of the goals. Steven Wells (2), Dale Venables and Troy Griffiths backed him up.
