Farsley 0 Curzon Ashton 1

Leaders Curzon Ashton escaped from Throstle Nest with a win that leaves them firm title favourites, while Farsley are now battling to hold onto a place in the Evo-Stik Division One North play-off zone.

As with all the games in the area, the spectacle was ruined by the stiff breeze.

Farsley skipper Rob O’Brien had the first sight of goal, although his shot was just wide of the target.

There was a flurry of action midway through the first half, with home keeper Tom Morgan blocking a shot from Matthew Warburton a minute before the visitors netted the game’s only goal.

A free-kick was sent into Farsley’s area and Simon Woodford turned the ball past Morgan.

The Farsley keeper was beaten again moments later but Warburton’s header was disallowed following a push.

The second half saw Farsley boss Neil Parsley make changes, bringing strikers Adam Priestley and Aiden Savory into the fray. The home side forced a glut of corners and gained free-kicks in promising positions but they failed to find the equaliser.

Parsley said: “The conditions were scandalous. The wind was dreadful and I feel sorry for the fans who turned up to watch two decent teams but witnessed a lottery.

“It was a close game but they got their noses in front and defended with their lives. It was a typical game between two sides at the top of the league. Our best chances were from set-pieces but we couldn’t make them count.”
