Bingley teenager Sam Bilham earned his second win in as many weeks as he headed his class at the Malcolm Wilson Rally.
It was the Bingley Grammar School student’s first attempt at gravel rallying and he made an immediate impression in the Cumbrian forests.
Bilham put in a near faultless performance in his Next Big Step-supported Nissan Micra to finish a highly creditable 23rd overall in the two-wheel drive category.
The 17-year-old driver, with Graham Wild of Keighley as his co-pilot, steered his 1000cc car to the finish ahead of many of the more powerful 1400cc units.
The win leaves Bilham at the top of the points table in the Rally First BTRDA (British Trial & Rally Drivers Association) Championship, which he is contesting this year. He has moved up after three seasons in the Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship.
Bilham’s next event will be the Somerset Stages on April 12.
