Bradford City sign Adam Drury on loan from Leeds United

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Adam Drury, right, is joining the Bantams on loan Adam Drury, right, is joining the Bantams on loan

Experienced Adam Drury has answered City’s SOS call for a left back.

The 35-year-old, currently out of the picture at Leeds, will go straight into the line-up at Brentford tomorrow afternoon as long as the relevant clearance has got through in time.

Drury’s arrival ends a patient search for Phil Parkinson, who has been looking for a specialist for the role since James Meredith was ruled out with a broken metatarsal at the turn of the year.

Centre halves Carl McHugh and Matthew Bates have been deputising but, with a hectic run of games coming up, Parkinson was desperate to bring in a proper full back.

Drury, who has signed on one month’s loan, was captured by Neil Warnock in the summer of 2012 after 11 years with Norwich. But he has been limited to only three appearances this season under Brian McDermott and has not played first-team football since August. He has featured in the development side since recovering from injury.

McDermott said: “We’re pleased that Adam is able to go out on loan to Bradford. He hasn’t played much this season and needs to be playing games.”

Drury, who is out of contract at the end of the season, won two promotions with the Canaries as well as a play-off success earlier in his career for Peterborough. He will wear the number six vacated by Luke Oliver.

It as always puzzled me as to why City have never turned to United for loanees before, I do not subscribe to the system BUT if needs must then local is better for all concerned.

Good signing, can't say I've been that impressed with LUFC recruits to BCFC in the past, but Drury is decent. Welcome aboard Adam, hope you enjoy the ride.

I think the poorest of that lot was the most expensive, 2m Hopkins. The best in my opinion was Mcniven. Loved watching him play along side Joe Cooke n Campbell.

I seem to remember a certain LB on loan from scum who did very well in the 2006/07 season! .........Ben Parker! Played most of the season and did v well, shows it can work borrowing from your neighbours.
Unfortunately injuries killed his rise up the football ladder and he was st Guiseley last I heard.
Good luck Adam!!

Lot's of experience yes. Games this season no....... He must have been at the bottom of the list. But now Phil's had to show his hand....!! Poor signing for me.... Let's hope that Meredith is on track with his recovery.

shocking panic buy. 35 years old, no real match fitness and he goes straight into the team.

Parky ha had weeks to find a left back and there must be a few younger ones around in premiership A teams. TRULY SHOCKING SIGNING OF A PLAYER AT THE END OF HIS CAREER.

Panic buy? He hasn't been bought, he's on loan for a month. How do you know he's not match fit? There aren't an abundance of left backs available from Premiership A teams, the positon is the most difficult to fill and clubs are reluctant to let them go unless they have their own cover. He's a very experienced specialist left back and as far as being 35 goes, Gary Jones was that age when we signed him.

Chris Kamara, one of my favourite all time BCFC managers, shame we didn't get him as a player a little earlier, still did a good job for BCFC as did Trevor Cherry and Terry Yorath ...they were of course a great managerial partnership for BCFC., Graham did a decent job as did McNiven and Tommy Wright. Thought the rest of your list were either past it , overated, both or a total waste of money..
