One In A Million pupil Ambah Thompson won the overall individual championship for under-15 girls at the Yorkshire Regional Sportshall Athletics Festival in Hull.

In what was a West Yorkshire clean sweep, she was followed by Batley Grammar School’s Rachel Crorken, Bingley Harrier Joanna Lawler-Rhodes and Ilkley Harrier Roisin Ramage in the next three slots.

More importantly, West Yorkshire won the team event by 41 points from North Yorkshire to seal their place in the United Kingdom finals at Sport City in Manchester on April 5-6, with Thompson taking the two-lap race and the vertical jump and Ramage winning the shot put.

West Yorkshire under-13 boys’ team are also heading for Sport City, despite finishing second behind guests Tyne & Wear, who are already North East champions.

Ilkley Harrier Sam McKinnon-Evans won the four-lap race, while Heckmondwike Grammar School’s Matthew Crorken finished first in the speed bounce.

West Yorkshire’s under-13 girls' team also qualified, while the under-15 boys headed their competition by 22 points from North Yorkshire to seal their place at Manchester, Bingley Harrier Ephraim Madugba winning the standing long jump.

There were no places at Sport City available at under-11 level but Ilkley Harrier Tom Jackson was equal first in the balance test as West Yorkshire won the team event on 502 points, 19 ahead of North Yorkshire.

The girls’ team were second, 16 points adrift of North Yorkshire.
