All the latest from the local angling scene.

FARVIEW LAKES Our third match was fished on Sunday, February 9 in lousy weather, including high winds with hail stones.

Add to that the fact that Farview Lakes is on a hillside and it made for some scary moments when trying to fish the pole at 14.5/16 metres. Fourteen die-hard anglers turned up and the results were very good again: 1 Craig Melling 64lb 12oz (carp/corn), 2 Jay Barnes 51lb 8oz (carp/corn), 3 Dave Rawson 46lb 12oz (carp/corn).

Last Sunday’s match was something of a surprise to those that attended. We had the usual wind but the weather stayed fine all day. Conditions had us thinking we were in for a cracking day’s sport but, as is usual with fishing, it didn’t pan out that way and only certain areas fished well.

Result: 1 Jimmy Redmond 83lb (carp/corn), 2 Craig Tidswell 53lb 8oz (carp/corn), 3 Dave Hawkes 28lb 8oz.

SALTAIRE AA Sunday’s canal match result: 1 George Colbran (Keighley) 14lb 6oz, 2 Nigel Storr (Halifax Matrix) 6lb 7oz, 3 Richard East (Halifax Matrix) 5lb 5oz. Pike anglers must take all rigs and tackle home. We have had complaints and dogs have been injured. Anglers found to be responsible will be banned from the club and we will consider prohibiting the use of double or treble hooks, wire traces and even pike angling if this continues. Similarly, anglers who are found responsible for discarded tins, cans and bottles will be banned from the club.

BRADFORD NO 1 AA Raskelf Lake will be closed on Sunday for round three of this year’s Winter Series. The river levels are still expected to be high this weekend so extra care should be taken on the banks. The River Swale and River Nidd could be worth a visit for the odd barbel and chub on lobworm or cheese. Gratrix Lane and Willow Hall Dam are both producing good nets of roach, ide and perch on maggot or bread. Membership is still available for 2014 from the usual outlets or online at bradfordno1.com.

BRADFORD PALS AC The result of our first match of the new season on Sunday at Lindholme Lakes on Laurels Lake was: 1 Trevor Wood, 2 Paul Wood, 3 Pete Fraser, 4 Bernie Hook. Our next match is on Sunday, March 23, at Brafferton on the Ghost Lake (all pegs). The draw will be at 9am and the café opens at 7.30. This is also the first round of the annual Knockout Cup. Everyone is booked on for this match. If you can’t make it you must notify the match secretary by March 16 or you will be charged a peg fee.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC We have organised an in-shore trip to Whitby on Saturday, March 1, aboard ‘Shy Torque’. Ring Dave on 07711-987833 to book a place. It is presentation evening on Tuesday, March 18. We would like as many people as possible to attend this popular event. Our new website bradfordanddistrictseaanglingclub.com is up and running.

LISTERHILLS AA Once again not many anglers have been out over the past week. The next members’ match at Pilley’s is on Sunday, March 2. Anglers fishing for pike should always use a wire trace and carry forceps to aid unhooking.

HEWENDEN AC The next pike match is on Sunday, with a 9am draw in the car park, £10 all in. All members welcome. Please send any proposals for the annual meeting in writing to the PO box address in your yearbook before March 1.

BINGLEY AC The river Aire in Myrtle Park will be closed to members on Sunday for the annual committee match (draw 9am at rear of the arts centre). Rivers should be back down to fishable levels this weekend and will be worth trying.
