Bradford Veterans maintained their Yorkshire Table Tennis League promotion push on two fronts following the latest round of fixtures.

Bradford seconds are unbeaten in Division Two since losing to Harrogate in the first match of the season and they faced a difficult trip to unbeaten leaders Wakefield, who were two points ahead.

A victory was crucial to keep alive their hopes of a top two finish and Deo Jones and Phil Mann stepped up to the plate with three singles each as Bradford triumphed 6-4 to draw level with Wakefield.

Both teams are now one point behind new leaders Harrogate but in the final round of fixtures Bradford’s rivals play each other so a win for Bradford in their match at home to York-2 would ensure promotion.

In Division Three, the fortunes of the third team have followed a similar pattern. They too lost their opening match to York thirds but are unbeaten since and their 9-1 success against Huddersfield thirds was their fifth in a row. Chris Town and Paul Mckrieth were both unbeaten while Alan Moulden took two. York-3 and Leeds-2 are the other teams in the race and Bradford face Leeds next month.

In the Bradford League, Rastrick kept up their title challenge in Division Four with a narrow victory at Hermits F.

The home side led 4-3 but Mick Whitham with three and Ronnie Maystone with a brace put them ahead and these two came from behind to beat Roger Swithenbank and Norman Swift 11-8 in the fifth game for a 6-4 victory.
