The leading four teams in Division Two are locked in a Bradford League promotion battle, with both Hermits A and Hermits B pushing for a top-two place.

The Hermits stablemates clashed in the latest round of fixtures and the A team, currently in third place, edged a tight contest against the leaders 6-4.

Ian Warner proved to be the match-winner with three singles victories, while Peter Johnson added two and Maurice Biott one.

It was the B team’s second defeat in a row and the loss of Sarfraz Khan through injury could prove crucial come the end of the season.

Pudsey B gave their hopes of finishing in one of the the two Division Four promotion places a boost with a 6-4 victory at fellow high-fliers Rastrick.

The teams were level at 3-3 after Ronnie Maystone won twice and Pete Mitchell once for Rastrick, while Pudsey replied through Granville Thornton and John Priestley.

The next two sets were crucial and Pudsey took them both as Thornton completed an unbeaten evening by stopping Maystone 11-9 in the fifth and Priestley pipped Mitchell 11-8 in their decider.

Rastrick took the last singles but Thornton and Priestley clinched victory for Pudsey in the doubles.

Hermits G and Laisterdyke B are the top two in this section and they shared the points from a 5-5 draw.

Chris Town and Kath Manogue won two points each for Hermits, with Zarnab Jamal adding a single, while Mohammed Murtaza was the hero for Laisterdyke with a treble. Mukhtar Khan won once and added the doubles with Murtaza.
