Captain fantastic Gary Jones struck twice from long range as City clawed their way back for a draw in a thrilling second half.
It’s now ten without a win at home but the Bantams stormed back to rescue this one after trailing Crewe 2-0 and 3-2.
Phil Parkinson made four changes from Molineux and handed an immediate debut to latest loan signing Matty Dolan for the suspended Nathan Doyle.
But City’s first-half performance lacked any edge or creativity in the unpleasant conditions.
The strong, swirling wind played its part – and was instrumental in Crewe’s goal after 11 minutes.
Carl McHugh, who kept his place after Rory McArdle suffered a head injury in training, totally misjudged the flight of Anthony Grant’s through ball.
The defender tried to head back to Jon McLaughlin but missed and Uche Ikpeazu slipped in to finish well with a lob over the stranded keeper.
City came out firing for the second half and Ben Garratt produced a brilliant save to claw away James Hanson’s header.
Then Adam Reach was denied from close range and debutant Dolan put the rebound into the side-netting.
But as City knocked on the door, Crewe broke to double their lead. McLaughlin palmed out Chuks Aneke’s shot and Ikpeazu scored again from the rebound.
City responded straight away as Mclean squared low for James Hanson to turn in from close range.
And Mclean had a hand in the equaliser two minutes later. He laid the ball back for Jones and the skipper drilled into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
City’s comeback could have been completed with 13 minutes left but Hanson scooped over the bar from close range.
The miss proved even more costly when Crewe regained the lead, Aneke setting up Mathias Pogba for a fierce finish.
But City and their indomitable skipper were not finished as Jones struck again with another thunderbolt.

The 0-0 bore between the sides in November was Crewe's only goalless draw for two years. Surely it's got to be better this afternoon?!
Exciting new look to our team today! #inparkinsonwetrust #bcafc— @dantheb 08 February 2014
Atmosphere building nicely as kick-off approaches. As Aaron Mclean said in today's T&A, this is a massive game for City.
Time to end that home drought at the tenth time of asking!
#bcafc rocking out some great tunes! Reach for the stars @mummysazz— @tristan2009 08 February 2014
Reckon this is the first time that Carl McHugh and Andrew Davies have partnered each other in centre of defence.
Only times when they've been in same City team before, McHugh has always played left back.
Nothing but three points will do today. Come on City! #bcafc— @JB_Pearson93 08 February 2014
Gutted that McArdle injured. Interesting to see how Davies and Carlo get on, both left sided defenders #bcafc— @jegolton 08 February 2014

No team news for a little while but Matty Dolan's clearance went through this morning to confirm his 93-day loan from Middlesbrough.
Expect him to slot in to central midfield to replace the suspended Nathan Doyle.
Good afternoon and welcome from Valley Parade for City's game against Crewe.
On the positive front, it's dry and the pitch looks remarkably good considering the heavy rain that has been falling during the week.
But be warned, the strong wind is absolutely freezing!
