Hungry Matty Dolan keen to taste success at Bradford City after rejecting higher-level interest

Matty Dolan has snubbed Championship interest to link up with City for the rest of the season.

The Middlesbrough midfielder is joining on a maximum 93-day loan – and is set to go straight in for tomorrow’s home clash against Crewe with Nathan Doyle suspended.

Phil Parkinson had to wait until today’s opening of the emergency window to get the 20-year-old after City ran out of time before the January deadline. He fills the gap left by Ricky Ravenhill’s move to Northampton.

The Bantams had to beat off late interest from two other clubs, one of them thought to be Yeovil – where Dolan played on loan in last season’s promotion campaign from League One.

Parkinson said: “There were a couple of other clubs interested in Matty on deadline day. He’s an intelligent lad and he’d looked at Bradford, the support and the potential and he wanted to come on board.

“We speak about it a lot. The players we try to get in have all got that hunger about them and it’s taken this club a long way and Matty is of that ilk.

“Matty played against us for Hartlepool and I’ve also seen him play for Middlesbrough under-21s at Man United a couple of weeks ago.

“He’s got hunger in his game and a desire to be a player and that’s what I like about him.

“He’s got a terrific left foot and the ability to play a killer pass. He looks forward early when he gets the ball.”

Dolan was a regular for Hartlepool during the first half of the season. Like fellow loan signings Adam Reach and Chris Atkinson, he does not need to play his way up to speed.

Parkinson added: “We haven’t got time for that to happen. There were other players in Premier League reserve teams who we possibly could have got.

“But we weighed everything up and Matty’s youthfulness is something we wanted to add to the squad. The fact he is used to league football is important and we felt he is the right one to bring on.

“He’s a different type of footballer to Ricky and hopefully our supporters will see that sooner rather than later.

“We just needed some fresh legs in that midfield and we’ve got that in. They are players we can have a look at going forward for the club.”

Kyle Bennett is back from suspension and James Hanson and Andrew Davies are also expected to start against the second worst travellers in the division.

City are still chasing a first win in 2014 – and first at home since the end of September. But Parkinson is confident of turning the corner.

Parkinson said: “There are 18 games to go and this is the squad now. There may be another defender coming in (at left back) but I’m not even sure that will happen.

“If it doesn’t, I’m happy with what we’ve got. We’ve got a strong squad with competition in all places.

“We’ve had a massive change-around and I’m very confident we can really finish the season in good fashion. We’re determined to do that.

“We’ve come a long way as a squad and staff at this club and now it’s time to roll our sleeves up and make sure every performance is a top one.”

After successive games when City have had players sent off in the first half-hour, Parkinson wants to see his team back on the front foot and supplying the strikers with ammunition.

“We’ve got to work on the strength of our players. Getting the best out of the front two is really important.

“We’ve always been a team that at our best play to the strengths of our front men. We’ve had an ‘up and at ’em’ approach when needed to get at the opposition back four.

“We really need to utilise Aaron Mclean. I know he came off early against Wolves but he’s had a terrific week on the training pitch.”

City will not be pursuing their interest in Spanish left back Christian Fernandez, who had been on trial earlier this week.

Matthew Bates will continue to keep the role – and is looking to break his Valley Parade duck. His only City win was their last victory at MK Dons in November.

Bates said: “I don’t think it’s lack of confidence at all. It’s easy to say but I think we have been quite unlucky in a few games where we’ve dominated play and they’ve got a lucky break and we’ve conceded.”

*The Court of Arbitration for Sport have adjourned their verdict on City’s Mark Stewart appeal once again until Friday, February 28.

Welcome Matty Dolan. ( I remember Terry Dolan). If Matty fits in, and proves to be a good acquisition to the Squad. I expect him to be signed permanently, during the closed Season. This permanency ,could also apply to the others obtained on loan.
*
I hope discipline has been top of the training agenda this week. I do not want to see any more red cards applied to City Players.

Wonder what the odds are for Bennett to be sent off again?

Maybe someone had a word. I'm sure Nick Allamby will have taken training to his usual professional standards. What he doesn't want is that Allenby geezer pushing in and taking the credit.

The way that Mcardle has played the last few games (and in previous ones for that matter), and the fact Mchugh was MOM last week IMO, he might start Muchugh with Davis?? I think he deserves his chance of a run of games.

Don't worry Parky will not drop Mc-****-le or play the new boys. He likes his old boys no matter how badly they play. For some bizarre reason he will not play McHugh!! Mc ****-le is slower than my gran on a bad day..

Apart from Bennet to replace doyle - expect him to stick with his old boy network and plenty of hoof ball. If we do not win tmrw then we are in serious doo doo!!

Leave Dolan on the bench, give him last 20 as he won't have trained with the team, need to get him intergrated into the squad before throwing him in the fold! Atkinson and Graham probably both be on the bench again, I think we might get something out of tomorrow. heres hoping, BUT.....

And if we do win, the manager's decisions will be proved correct. Do you see the players every day in training like he does? Are you hoping we won't win tomorrow so you and others can call for his head? Personally, I think we'll have an empatic win tomorrow. The new players are all well up for it and the squad have had time to get to know each other. Far from being in serious doo doo, we're all set to go from strength to strength. The reason he doesn't play McHugh is not bizarre, it's simply based on what happens in training.

My team v Crewe would be:
McLaughlin
(RB)Darby / McHugh / Davies / Bates (LB)

(RM) Bennett / Jones (DM) / Atkinson(AM)/ Reach (LM)

(CF) Hanson / (CF) McClean

Diamond when attacking - Atkinson can sit in when defending as Doyle does.

Dolan, Arronson, Thommo, McCardle, McBurnie, Gray, Yeates

C'mon City 3pts tomorrow please!!!!!!

Really? I doubt you'd last five minutes. And you'd last even less than that as a manager. If Paul McGrath never trained and Ledley King did not do much how could they have worked with colleagues on the field in a game? At the professional level everyone needs to work together and that means practising and knowing who is going to do what and when. Far from having crap games as you suggest McArdle has made a few errors because Davies has been out and he's had to adjust his game accordingly.

Saw an earlier comment that Dolan hadn't trained, he's been here all week with the 1st team. Hope they don't drop McHugh and maybe should drop McArdle cos he's not been at the races. But then again he's a different player when Davies is in(normally).

Crewe have the worst goal difference in the league so there have got to be aspects that are there to exploit. I'd go for the jugular from the off.

Crewe have the worst goal difference in the league so there have got to be aspects that are there to exploit. I'd go for the jugular from the off.
DAVIES saved mccardle on numerous occasions last home game and carried him through it. Lately mccardle ad been of his game. The backing off stems in part due to his lack of pace so ad a unit we back off. His positional play as also gone awry as his confidence appears to have also. Needs a break for me. Mchugh ad done nothing wrong and him and Davies look good imo. Mchugh deserves a run and a new contract. Ee would be foolish to lose him as he can have a great future in the game. ...

Had you not been in Dubai, or wherever, you will have seen that City wanted Dolan to sign permanently, but due to issues outside our control, we couldn't get the deal done in time. Although he is on loan now, he has already agreed on a deal for next season!!!!

City are also taking this opportunity to have a good look at Atkinson and Bennett, with a due to making their transfers permanent? What's wrong with that? At least if they don't perform, we won't have ignorant fans like you berating PP for tying down 'sh!t' players....!

Leave Dolan on the bench, give him last 20 as he won't have trained with the team, need to get him intergrated into the squad before throwing him in the fold! Atkinson and Graham probably both be on the bench again, I think we might get something out of tomorrow. heres hoping, BUT.....
3 points tomorrow is a must!!!
Wrong fella. Dolan has been with us all week and should start against Crewe tomorrow. I expect PP to start with;

McLaughlin

Darby
McArdle
Davies
Bates

Bennett
Jones
Dolan
Reach

Hanson
Mcleary

Since PP STILL hasn't been able to bring in a left-back (how long does he need?), I can't see anyone other than Bates filling in. Personally, I'd prefer to see McHugh given an opportunity to build a relationship alongside Davies, especially with McArdle's obvious dip in form.

I firmly believe in PP, he gave the team that earned us promotion a chance as he promised, if it wasn't for AD injury and the nakhi saga distroying moral I think we would still bein a comfortable top 10 position, saying that we did need fresh young legs in the middle which Dolan could be. McArdle needs a rest imo, I would put McHugh with Davies, I really think he could be class and hope we can keep him longer than Nakhi.
With Reach, Dolan and Atkinson I can see JH and AM benefitting hugely, especially at VP.
I did hear Dolan been with the squad in training this week but if not I agree in not starting him

UTTER COBBLERS!!.... I think the late night STALKING of poor JH has addled your brain!! . You may find Golf a better way to spend your time!!...Mind you its hard playing golf in the DARK!
What's "cobblers" about it??? Every word I posted about the players is true. Were yours? No, I think you will find it was your "ramblings" that were "cobblers" and you can't even blame the time (unless you were posting from your 2nd home in Dubai)!!!!
