James Saltonstall looks set to make his Super League debut for the Bulls after his loan spell was extended into a second month.

Saltonstall, Joe Philbin and Tom Walker have spent the past month on loan at the Provident Stadium from Warrington.

While 19-year-old forwards Philbin and Walker have returned to their parent club, Italy World Cup winger Saltonstall will remain on loan for another four weeks.

The Halifax-born utility back has played in all three of the Bulls’ pre-season games and scored a try against Dewsbury.

Bulls coach Francis Cummins said: “James made his third appearance for us against Castleford over the weekend and he is going to be staying with us for another four weeks or so.

“He adds further competition for places out wide and gives us some added depth going into the new season.

“I’d like to thank James, Joe and Tom for all of their efforts over the past four weeks. They have been great to have around the place and have all contributed well during our pre-season campaign.

“I believe they have benefited from the experience, being thrown straight into a full-time environment with the rest of the squad and competing for us in two or three friendly games.”

Second-rower Philbin played against Hull FC and Dewsbury while prop Walker played only in the Rams game, with both teenagers having then featured for Warrington in their win at Leigh last Sunday.

Philbin and Walker are expected to play regularly for Warrington’s under-19s this season but Saltonstall, at 20, is too old for that competition.

Wolves coach Tony Smith said: “All three of them have been a credit to themselves and to our club.

“To be able to play a game or two for Bradford was a great experience for them and they have certainly come back better young men and better for the experience.

“I think it was a win-win situation all round. Walker and Philbin both played well against Leigh and I’m really pleased that they are back in full-time training with us.

“At the moment we are happy for Saltonstall to stay at Bradford until we look at things further down the line and at what’s the best spot for him either at Bradford or back with ourselves. But we’ll certainly look at that in the coming weeks.”
