The three Bradford teams playing in the Yorkshire Veterans League have had mixed fortunes so far this season but all have plenty to play for with key matches coming up.

The third team have enjoyed an excellent run in Division Three and the addition of Sarfraz Khan has had a major impact.

They lost their opening fixture to current leaders York Thirds but have since won four matches in a row, with Khan winning 11 out of 12 sets.

Unfortunately he has since suffered a serious leg injury which will keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

There are two matches left and Bradford are currently in third place behind York and Leeds Seconds – and with their final fixture at Leeds, it could well be a promotion decider.

The Bradford first team have had a difficult season so far, winning only one of their six matches to lie next to bottom in Division One.

But only two points separate the bottom four and Bradford face two of those sides in the final round of fixtures in March, so their fate is in their own hands.

Bradford Seconds are in Division Two and have also benefited from having a new player.

Deo Jones, who plays for Yeadon in the Bradford League, is a consistent performer and has won eight of his nine sets so far, with his side in a six-team scramble for the two promotion places with two matches left.

* The Bradford Closed Championships will take place on Sunday, April 6 at Keighley Table Tennis Centre. The tournament is being organised by Peter Holbrook.
