Alan Connell is expected to become Chris Wilder's first signing as Northampton boss.
The out-of-favour City striker was tonight finalising a move to Sixfields. The Cobblers, currently bottom of League Two, are expected to take over his Valley Parade contract, which runs until the end of the season.
Phil Parkinson said: "It's a good move for Alan because he needs to play. It's close to being done."
Former City defender and Halifax manager Wilder only took over at Northampton yesterday after leaving Oxford.
