Alan Connell set for Northampton move from Bradford City

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Alan Connell is set to join Northampton Alan Connell is set to join Northampton

Alan Connell is expected to become Chris Wilder's first signing as Northampton boss.

The out-of-favour City striker was tonight finalising a move to Sixfields. The Cobblers, currently bottom of League Two, are expected to take over his Valley Parade contract, which runs until the end of the season.

Phil Parkinson said: "It's a good move for Alan because he needs to play. It's close to being done."

Former City defender and Halifax manager Wilder only took over at Northampton yesterday after leaving Oxford.

Absolute top class professional; and so under used and appreciated at City. In Parky I Trust and all that but...I am not having it that no matter what the potential of Oli McBurnie (and he has) it is just that 'potential' Connell is already an experienced and talented player. So when Parky inexpicably hauls off McLean last night and completely nullifies our attacking threat I have to question what he thinks Oli Mc offers that Connell could not ?. One of the strangest 'lack of uses' football signings ever ?. Good luck Alan go get em and up the Pirates ! maybe you might have more chance to get down the Speedway at Wimborne Road Poole with a move to the Cobblers.

Completely agree with the favourable comments so far. A talented experienced professional whose talents have been overlooked. I hope he remembers Bradford City for his historic contribution to season 2012/13 and not the times he was so often overlooked in favour of less talented players. Go and show what you can do for the Cobblers Alan, Keep them in the league and let City know what they've lost.
