Manningham Mills may have been kicked out of the JCT600 Bradford League last September – but their ground could still host cricket this season.

Bradford Mutual Sunday School League Group A side Bradford Moor are in talks with the Scotchman Road club about playing there in 2014.

Moor’s representative Mohammed Amir Majid said at the Mutual League’s January meeting at Clayton Rugby League Club: “We used Tong Park Esholt last season but were turfed out, so we got in touch with Manningham Mills Sports Association about using Scotchman Road.

“Taj Butt (Mutual League secretary) has had a chat with them and we understand that there will be a meeting with the Sports Association next Tuesday to decide if we can play there.”

Meanwhile, the league are also waiting for a progress report from Bradford Council regarding Parkside and TABS playing at Bowling Park this season.

Butt said: “I was in e-mail contact with Bradford Council before Christmas and they said they would get the ground ready for this season.

“I would not imagine that they could do anything in this weather but temporary changing room accommodation will be provided, and the league’s grounds committee plan to inspect Bowling Park in due course.”

League fixtures’ secretary Graham Langton, who is also secretary of the league’s umpires’ association, said: “An umpires’ course will start at Clayton Rugby League Club on Wednesday, February 5 (7.30pm), and will continue for the next five Wednesdays.

“It is free, it will explain the new laws and participants do not have to attend every Wednesday, but 11 teams do not currently have an umpire listed so there will definitely be vacancies.”
