Fastbats A and Unity D were both promoted to the Bradford League top flight this season but they are both set for a swift return to Division Two.

Neither side has got anywhere near the top six teams so far and they are having a private battle for league position.

Unity won the first meeting between the rivals but Fastbats gained their first success of the campaign in the return match, with Tony Hutton leading the way.

The first four sets were shared but Fastbats secured a 7-3 victory with a burst of four wins in a row, with Hutton banking all three of his, Craig Knowles adding two and Tony Megowan one.

Unity replied with two from Craig Priestley and one by Geoff Dunne but they have now dropped to the bottom of the pile.

At the other end of the table, the top two were involved in another thrilling encounter as the Police maintained their advantage over defending champions Highdale A.

The Police held a 17-point lead but Highdale made a great start as they looked to reduce the deficit.

Mark Land and Peter Morgan both logged five-game wins, over Shahriar Masoudi and Tim Dyson respectively, and with No 1 Richard Whiteley still to play, Highdale were on track for victory.

But the Police hit back strongly to take five sets in a row as John Chew and Dyson won two each and Masoudi one, with Whiteley drawing a blank.

Yet it finished in a 5-5 draw as Land and Morgan won the last two singles – and Highdale also took the doubles as Morgan and Whiteley hit back from two games down.
