Francis Cummins' men run in five tries in friendly romp

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Action from today's game at the Provident Stadium Action from today's game at the Provident Stadium

Bradford Bulls 30, Hull FC 18

Francis Cummins was left delighted as the Bulls outclassed Hull FC in their opening pre-season friendly this afternoon.

Cummins’ men were 24-0 up at half-time after tries from Nick Scruton, Adrian Purtell, Danny Addy and Jamie Foster.

Adam Henry added a fifth immediately after the break as a Hull side featuring plenty of first-team regulars were put to the sword.

Cummins included new recruits Lee Gaskell, Henry, Garreth Carvell and Warrington loanees James Saltonstall and Joe Philbin.

The only concern for the Bulls coach was the sight of Scruton departing the action shortly after he opened the scoring, having picked up an injury.

Gaskell, meanwhile, enjoyed a fine first half at full back, Carvell was impressive both halves and Henry was assured on his bow.

Lee Radford’s visitors hit back with three tries in the last five minutes when Jamie Shaul, Josh Bowden and Jordan Rankin touched down.

Joe Westerman converted all three tries but the Bulls were long since home and dry.

Last few Hull tries were when we had mostly kids on the field. The first 70mins were excellent. Hope we can keep this side together.

There was some exciting attacking play and dogged defence on show. Impressed with O'Brien, Gaskel, Foster and the forwards. Good cohesion in defence and support in attack. Hull very lucky to score the last two tries. Hull supporter next to me said they got straight off the bus onto the pitch, were rubbish last week and was not hopeful next week against Robins. Nice to not have to worry about the rugby. Nice to have the rugby to watch at long last. Well Done Frannie.

Absolutely delighted with display, thought defence was great especially on the goal line ,forget last 5 minutes as lack of match practice,we beat Hull well and truly ,for the squad they have ,and the pace of the top centre wing combo from last year,. We didn't let them have a clear chance. I SAY WELL DONE FRANNY and whole team , onwards & upwards

Here is the view of one unhappy Hull fan. It makes good reading

"Today's embarrassment only proves the point I have been making, we have not prepared well for the coming important season. The article misses out the fact that our 'first team' players were simply not up to the job, we were clueless and the final score flattered us. If Bradford had played for the full 80 minutes I shudder to think what the final score would have been. It is a blessing for us that they switched off in the second half, in fact we only scored when they took their first team off the field towards the end of the match."
Not gloating here, just pleased with our performance. My resolution for this year is to reject negativity - "Onwards and Upwards"

only a friendly, but could't have gone any better by the sound of it. Glad to see defence is getting praised as this is the area that has let us down for a number of years now

This is what it's all about. Muck n bullets time.

Hopefully a good start to the season will see more bodies on the terraces and more cash in the coffers, just don't get carried away too soon, a bit of caution as well as hope and pride eh?
