10:01am

There are two more injuries to add to the growing list at Valley Parade.

Ricky Ravenhill was forced off midway through the first half with ankle ligament problems.

Kyel Reid, who played well, was taken off before the end after complaining of a tight calf.

9:57am

Phil Parkinson was happy with City's performance in the wake of Nahki Wells' exit.

The 1-1 draw means the Bantams have still not won at home since the end of September but Parkinson reckons his side did enough to win.

He said: "With everything that’s gone on this week and with the injuries we’ve got, I thought we were tremendous.
"I was disappointed with the goal we conceded because it was clearly avoidable.
“But we asked the players to put into practice what we’d worked on in training against their three at the back system and I felt we did that.
“And we asked them to play with spirit and togetherness. I felt we did that.
“I’m really pleased with the way we approached the game. All in all, on chances I think we deserved to win it.”

5:06pm

City began life after Nahki Wells with a point from an end-to-end encounter with Bristol City at Valley Parade.
The Bantams got off to a dream start by scoring inside the first minute. Kyel Reid won an immediate corner and James Hanson converted his first goal since October from close range.
Carl McHugh could have increased their lead before Bristol City levelled with their first shot, Scott Wagstaff angling home a deadly drive after the home defence were caught napping.
Both sides should have scored either side of half-time – Garry Thompson jabbing across goal for City and then Marvin Elliott missing a free header from a corner.
Then the teams traded efforts against the woodwork. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas swerved one against the post for the visitors before Gary Jones responded with a 25-yarder which hit the inside of the upright in front of the Kop.
Oliver McBurnie, partnering Hanson up front, twice had chances in a hard-working display.
The draw means City have now gone eight home games without a win but it was a much improved performance all round.

4:56pm

And that's the final whistle, it's finished 1-1

4:55pm

4:54pm

Hanson down clutching his face after aerial challenge with Osborne.

4:53pm

Bristol's potentially dangerous breaks ends with a pass into touch from sub Burns

4:53pm

We're two minutes into four of stoppages

4:53pm

Corner number 12 for City....

4:52pm

Nahki Wells has scored for Huddersfield....

4:50pm

Emmanuel-Thomas, who has been very dangerous, is replaced by Burns for stoppage time

4:49pm

Thompson breaks away from the halfway line but his shot at the end of a good run is pretty tame.

4:47pm

There's 400 more here than at Huddersfield v Millwall

4:46pm

It's one of those horrible short ones and comes to nothing

4:46pm

Corner number 11 for the Bantams, five mins of normal time to go..

4:44pm

Jones wellies a free-kick from distance but it's well off course

4:43pm

No sighting of the Villa youngster Graham then today. That went out the window when Ravenhill went off

4:41pm

McHugh has done much better in the second half after sticky first 45 minutes.

4:41pm

Aden Flint, proper name for a centre half, oofs ball into crowd under no pressure...

4:40pm

Opportunity for McArdle to stride out of defence like Alan Hansen. He tries 40 yard long ball for Yeates to chase...

4:38pm

4:37pm

McBurnie goes off to a standing ovation and large chorus. Young lad really put a good shift in today.

4:37pm

Corner number ten for City and Parish makes a great save from McArdle header...

4:37pm

Connell stripped and ready to come on as McBurnie goes close.

4:36pm

Bristol City sub and Barnett replaces Bobby Reid

4:35pm

Emmanuel-Thomas weaves through amber shirts before his shot is blocked.

4:34pm

Barnett about to come on for his Bristol City debut

4:33pm

McBurnie down in a heap, looks like he has got problems with cramp

4:32pm

Sub number two for City as Reid makes way for Yeates.

4:30pm

Reid beats three men to cross but ball is swept away

4:29pm

City really want this one. Playing with vigour as they force yet another corner.

4:28pm

Fantastic effort from Jones from 25 yards..... hits inside of the post. City skipper was celebrating, convinced it was in!

4:27pm

Elliott looks to counter for Bristol as City throw bodies forward. Kennedy intervenes with well-timed tackle on halfway line

4:25pm

4:24pm

McBurnie golden chance for his first goal as Hanson heads across box into his path but ball sticks in ground a bit and scuffs his shot, allowing Flint to block.

4:22pm

Crowd today is 13,050. Haven't been given the figure for away fans but doesn't look that many

4:21pm

Danger signs here as Emmanuel-Thomas breaks. Well done Bates who tracks him all the way and blocks for Bristol City corner

4:21pm

McHugh floats one in now and it's nodded behind for a corner. Volume increasing

4:20pm

Another good cross driven in by Thompson but just too high for the leaping Hanson.

4:20pm

Great effort from Emmanuel-Thomas swerves against the post. Saw it all the way from here... was going in until the last second. Real break for City

4:13pm

Bizarre loose pass from Thompson sets Bristol City away but McArdle cleans up

4:12pm

Hanson header at back post and McBurnie tries cheeky backheel which Parish saves in front of line.

4:11pm

Reid again looking the likely threat for City. Been lively every time he's got the ball - and another good cross wins a corner.

4:09pm

The fans are going again with chants of C'mon City ringing around

4:09pm

McHugh header blocked and City shout for handball - mainly the Kop actually - is ignored.

4:08pm

Thompson cross right under the bar but Flint beats Hanson to it. City corner

4:07pm

Strong defending by Bates to get in front of Emmanuel-Thomas to concede corner.

But City caught cold by quickly-taken setpiece and Elliott heads wide. Big chance for the visitors

4:06pm

Here we go again.

4:05pm

4:05pm

Question for the fashionistas... What colour is "university red"?

Apparently that is the colour of the side panels on Bristol City's shirts.

3:48pm

And that's the break, 1-1

3:46pm

Three minutes of added time

3:46pm

Thompson needs a goal and really should have had one. Did the hard work with one-two with Hanson to make space - got to hit the target from close range.

3:45pm

Tantalising cross into the mixer from Reid is cleared but City continue to press and Thompson jabs wide from angle. Great chance to restore City's lead just before the break

3:42pm

McHugh doesn't look comfortable at left back. Emmanuel-Thomas header guided well wide...

3:41pm

3:40pm

Better stuff from City and they earn corner number five. Kennedy hits it low and Thompson flicks wide to ironic cheers from away fans

3:39pm

Safely negotiated by the Bantams and ball is up other end where Thompson pressures Parish into a rushed clearance.

3:38pm

Corner for Bristol City, who are playing some good football. Can see that they have massively under-achieved this season.

3:37pm

Hanson knockdown for Reid who sets up Kennedy. But his 25-yard attempt takes deflection off Flint which takes the pace off it

3:36pm

Bobby Reid catches it well with a volley from distance but it's a simple catch for McLaughlin.

3:34pm

Kennedy links up with Thompson to find space to drill fierce shot which Parish blocks at his near post.

3:31pm

Kop look to lift City as they defend first corner

3:30pm

But Reid caught out from Bristol throw-in and Cunningham shot deflects over bar with McLaughlin rooted to spot

3:30pm

Good defensive play to head clear from far post by Kyel Reid....

Yes, you read that right

3:28pm

Play straight to the other end where Bobby Reid's fizzer from 25 yards is beaten away by McLaughlin.

3:28pm

Hanson gets away from Elliott and his cross skims off the head of McBurnie

3:27pm

No-nonsense boot from McArdle deals with Wagstaff cross. McHugh has his hands full with him on City's left side.

3:26pm

Jones free-kick into Bristol box too high for target Thompson at the back post. Good game this but lot more even since the visitors equalised

3:23pm

Thompson collects City's first booking for a foul on Cunningham 25 yards out. City deal with the free-kick.

3:23pm

Bristol City break from corner through Emmanuel-Thomas. Allowed to go far too far before backheel to Baldock is intercepted by McArdle just outside City box.

3:22pm

Feel for Ravenhill who had started the game very strongly. City will miss that in central midfield.

3:22pm

Reid still has a pop and the deflection off wall means another corner. City have to make a sub before it's taken as Ravenhill replaced by Kennedy.

3:22pm

Free-kick is good 30 yards out....

3:21pm

Reid sets off on another determined run which ends with a trip from behind by Wagstaff - and a booking

3:20pm

McHugh comes through pack to get a head on Jones corner and complains he gets a push as ball deflects sideways

3:19pm

Reid's trickery and cross headed over bar for a third City corner.

3:19pm

Hanson headlocked by Elliott. Think that's a free-kick referee

3:18pm

3:18pm

Ravenhill getting treatment as the players have a drinks break.

3:17pm

Quick break from Bristol City and Emmanuel-Thomas floats left foot shot past post.

3:16pm

3:16pm

Kennedy sent to warm-up as Ravenhill toils on

3:16pm

Ravenhill down as Reid cross blocked in box. Midfielder hobbling and trying to continue but doesn't look comfortable...

3:15pm

3:14pm

Deflected clearance drops kindly for Baldock but his side-foot shot straight at McLaughlin. Element of panic in City ranks as ball hustled clear.

3:13pm

Crowd staying with City, who have been playing well. Reid trying to make amends as he gets to byline but low cross hammered away.

3:12pm

So that's another game without a clean sheet. Still only the one since Andrew Davies - who's up here in the press box - had his knee injury

3:12pm

It's 1-1 out of nothing.... McHugh beaten to header and Reid goes missing behind him allowing WAGSTAFF to beat McLaughlin with a cross-shot.

3:10pm

Bristol City not been allowed to settle at all. Ravenhill going through them like a T34 tank (one for the Military Channel geeks)...

3:09pm

3:08pm

City really on the front foot. Just what was needed to lift the gloom from seeing Wells cross the M62...

3:07pm

Crunching challenge from Ravenhill leaves Emmanuel-Thomas walking gingerly. And crowd love it

3:05pm

Jones picks out McHugh for free header but he gets underneath it - and looks very annoyed to miss. Good chance that.

3:05pm

And now it's another corner from the other side...

3:05pm

Good strength from McBurnie to hold off three defenders edge of the box. Place is buzzing

3:04pm

3:04pm

Hanson's first goal since October 22 at Preston and the perfect pick-me-up after the Wells news...

3:02pm

And City have scored! Jones corner headed back across goal by HANSON, ball comes back to him and he nudges home. 1-0

3:01pm

City corner after 25 seconds. Positive stuff from Reid

3:00pm

City to kick off towards the Bradford End. Just remembered this is final game of Matthew Bates's short-term contract - wonder if it's the last we'll see of him?

2:57pm

Massive afternoon for young Oliver McBurnie. Would take a lot of heat out the situation if he popped up with a goal today ...

2:56pm

Bring out the Bantams .... and here they come

2:55pm

2:40pm

2:40pm

Bit of a subdued feel to the place at the moment. Fans still coming to terms with events of the last 24 hours.

By the way, Wells is on the Huddersfield bench against Millwall this afternoon. That hamstring problem seems to have cleared ...

2:33pm

2:25pm

2:23pm

2:23pm

2:23pm

New signing Tyrone Barnett is on the bench for Bristol City this afternoon.

They are looking to win three successive league games for the first time since November 2011.

BRISTOL CITY (3-5-2): Parish, Osborne, Flint, Williams, Cunningham, Reid, Pack, Elliott, Wagstaff, Emmanuel-Thomas, Baldock. Subs: Moloney, Fontaine, Bryan, Barnett, Burns, Gillett, Fielding.

2:12pm

Oliver McBurnie will partner James Hanson up front this afternoon - one of two changes from the miserable New Year's Day defeat at Notts County.

McBurnie replaces Jason Kennedy as Garry Thompson returns to the right wing.

With James Meredith injured, Carl McHugh takes over at left back.

Yesterday's loan signings, Aston Villa winger Jordan Graham and Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Arron Jameson, are both on the bench.

CITY: McLaughlin, Darby, McArdle, Bates, McHugh, Thompson, Ravenhill, Jones, Reid, McBurnie, Hanson. Subs: Oliver, Kennedy, Taylor, Yeates, Connell, Graham, Jameson.

1:59pm

Good afternoon and welcome to Valley Parade for City's first game post Nahki Wells.

Decent result as after a turbulent week for the club, I'm sure PP will have his eyes on a striker, fair play to Mcburnie did his best but only a bench player at his age. I think we all knew Wells would come off the bench and score for the other lot, good luck to him. Come on city !

Maybe it was that suspect injury he had.
Apparently Wells demanded he only wanted to go to Huddersfield.
Did he not realise the rivalry between both clubs or did the £ signs get in the way!

Another poor performance by City to be honest I think anybody with a bit of quality could have had at least 3 goals today for City Bristol very poor City made them look better than an average team, Hanson was great led the line well Mchugh also did a great job at left back but Parky has really got it wrong playing McBurnie the poor lad is way out of his depth and if Parky persists in putting this lad in from the start he will do more damage than good for his future in the proffesional game keep him on the bench untill he matures a little longer and gets a bit more weight on.

Agree on Hanson and McHugh as both were awesome. Dont agree on McBurnie. He is definitely on the light side but some great touches and chased down well. Clearly wont be first choice at moment but hope he gets lots of game time.

By insisting that he'd only go to Huddersfield, Wells virtually dictated an artificially low fee as there was no competition for his services. No sign of his "injury" today. PP suggested his mind has been "elsewhere" for weeks. I wonder just how long this move has been in the making?

In my mind, all his good work over the past two years has been tarnished by his antics over the past few weeks.

You'd do well to remember, Nahki, that, in this life, what comes around, goes around. To those Huddersfield fans currently congratulating themselves on a cut price deal, just wait until he gets bored of playing in front of small crowds at your place, and decides which club he'll engineer a move to next.

Cityman23 says...

There were plenty of feverish private conversations going on before the match began around the ground with a certain 'topic' the main preoccupation for many. However, it was good to be back to the actual football and City got off to the best possible start with a tap in opener from Hansen after a Bantams' corner with only a few mins. played.

An equaliser came along as a result of a Bristol attack down the left not being hampered (with perhaps Reid culpable), but a Bristol shot went past goalie Jonny Mac far too easily. Was there a bobble? Unsure!

From here on in, the game settled down to a fairly even contest where both sides had chances (both hit the post) and a draw was a fair result. City are becoming a bit of a banker for home draws and on balance it probably indicates where we are ie middle of the league (which for this season is acceptable.)

Gary Jones won the 'MOTM' award but though he did well, I thought James Hanson shaded it for that award. 'JH' won every header in sight and laid off the ball well. Carl McHugh also put in a good shift and Jason Kennedy (after replacing the injured Ravenhill) had his best game in claret/amber.

Oliver McBurnie chased for everything and produced some good play, nearly, before being subbed, scoring a possible winner. If he had, there would have been the loudest roar since last season's 'heroics.' The young lad needs 'nurturing' and not being over-used. He is on the light side, but will gain strength over time. He's NOT a ready-made replacement for 'NW' yet but..... he could be a long-term one.

Overall, this was not the worst result or performance that could have followed yesterday's news!

Cityman23

Heard he warned their bench first half.
Maybe it was that suspect injury he had.
Apparently Wells demanded he only wanted to go to Huddersfield.
Did he not realise the rivalry between both clubs or did the £ signs get in the way!

According to Sky deal was £1.3 million !

Sounded like a great atmosphere in the second half, well done for getting right behind the lads once again, superb support. The game seemed to change when Reid went off with an injury, shame that as BCFC seemed well on top at the time, . Anyone know how Leeds went on, just kidding, great result and just the pick me up needed lol. Seemed like Reid, Jones and McHugh were outstanding. Shame JM let in a soft goal, time to maybe give the new keeper a run out. and use the same type of competition for the gloves that worked so well last season..

It's no secret that we have to move players out and PP might find it difficult to offload the likes of Connell, Oliver and Gray. Given Nahki's "hamstring" injury, that miraculously cleared up today, I wonder how authentic some of our injuries are? I've not seen what's officially wrong with De Vita and Doyle. Doyle's omission from the squad today was described as a "knock". I'm not sure how he got it as he's not played much recently.

I just wonder whether Nathan Doyle as a high earner, is to be sacrificed, in order to reduce the cap and bring new faces in.

Sorry, but the Wells affair has made me somewhat cynical.

Interesting conversations about Nahki today and his scheming. I wonder what his former team mates thought about his behaviour whilst he was at VP? Is that why the mood has been so downbeat? I have lost total respect for the kid. Frankly it is L666ds who deserve that type of individual the most but Nahki's right, the Clowns probably do suit him.

Back to the rumours of potential targets, Dicko is apparently close to joining Wolves, shame as he clearly knows where the net is! McLean is a confirmed target, but the two others have not been named, I wonder if one could be Dagnall, PP clearly rated him the season before last and he did ok at Coventry, now released by Barnsley! I'd personally like to see a move for Stevie May from St Johnstone. His record is very good over the last two seasons. Scored a cracker today by all accounts and St Johnstone are allegedly v wary of a decent offer coming in for him! Not sure if the lad Gregory from Halifax will fulfill the proven goal scorer role at L1 level, hopefully all will be revealed early next week

It's been alleged today that Nahki Wells made it clear to Chair, Mark Lawn, that he wanted to go to Huddersfield Town and ONLY Huddersfield Town which, if true, certainly put the club (BCAFC) in a corner. Okay, 18 months to go in his contract, but if 'NW' sat tight and refused to consider any other club that could've meant he left for nothing.

Also, HOW did 'NW' KNOW he was wanted by Huddersfield Town? You can't hold out for a move to a club unless you're SURE they want you (???!!!)

All, in all ..there COULD be more to this than meets the eye!

Whoever we get, he needs pace or the opposition will be double teaming Reid all the time. Parkinson made a mistake by replacing Hines with Yeates who has absolutely no pace which means Reid is having to do all the carrying of the ball, it was very noticable yesterday that when Reid departed so did BCFC's chance of winning the game. Now Wells has gone we only have Reid with pace, he's a quality player but that is too much lumped onto one player. We need pace in attack and imo in midfield. I'd also like to see the new keeper getting a game next week.

And can the club bring the fantastic hoops back next season, and while we're at it, lets get back to BCFC fans back in the Bradford End, why on earth anything was changed after the fantastic season BCFC had last season is a mystery. To go so long without a home win is ludicrous. September 2013, we are now well into January 2014.

Absolutely spot on. If our midfield continue to sit in a line of four just inside our own half and allow visiting teams to play the ball at will across their back line until their runners have found space we will continue to struggle at VP. Our two front men put in a great shift but were pulled all over the place because there wasn't any support or pressing from midfield. I don't think their 'keeper kicked the ball out once, just had to roll it out unchallenged to either fullback or centrehalf. When our front two have been pulled right or left........they are not in a position to score. It's not rocket science..........is it?

Good interview by Mark Lawn yesterday, he did state that the money would go back into the team and that we were talking to three players. I felt a bit sorry for him as it looks like Wells had been 'got at' well in advance of the transfer window. A 4+year contract is massive and Hoyle is investing heavily at Hudds.
The boy obviously was dishonest in his dealings with BCFC which is sad but proved by him playing yesterday.
Some clubs who don't need the money would have made him sit until the end of this season and then let him go. His preferred team might not have wanted him then.

I just can't weight Reid up. He is definitely one of the hardest working players, but how much do we get from him? He is excellent at running the ball out of defence but his crossing isn't great. Yes he 2/3 men on him at times, but why does he not pass and take said players out of the game, instead of doggedly trying to get the cross in? And if we had a bit more penetration in the middle would he have an easier pass on (don't think that he would pass anyway) or would the opposition even be able to spare the players to go out wide, enabling him to get a better cross in, or attack the box? The other thing is we never have that many players in the box ( We actually did for Hanson's goal and got rewarded. After that thought we gradually dropped further and further back) or attacking the front post, so his crossing has to be great or its wasted. And I don't think that even his biggest fan would say it is great. Also Thompson being out of form (too old?) doesn't help.

According to Dean hoyle on radio Leeds, Hudderfield are planning long term and have been watching wells for 18 months. There may well have been a bit of nodding and winking going on. Lawn also said that good players either sign for a fee or if they are out of contract the fee money goes to them in wages. So we could have made wells sweat it out, but he would be the one to benefit.

After that thought we gradually dropped further and further back) or attacking the front post, so his crossing has to be great or its wasted. And I don't think that even his biggest fan would say it is great. Also Thompson being out of form (too old?) doesn't help.
I weighed Reid up immediately, obviously he played a massive part in BCFC getting promoted and also getting to the clubs first major cup final since 1911, he's quite simply a class act. I don't believe he will stay at BCFC unfortunately, as he gets too much unjust criticism. Instead of supporting the player some fans and i use that term very loosely seem to need to be proved correct, its sad that they would try to put the guy off just to say as it seems ''I was right', surely the club and result comes first, the ego needs to be put away for 90mins for the greater good of the club and its results. Back Reid unconditionally and he'll on occasions win games for Bradford City Football Club off his own bat. Most folk involved in the game know what a threat Reid is, there does seem a real problem regarding some BCFC fans though, that is why he'll be gone either this month or at the end of the season. Sometimes I wonder ( and i say this with an heavy heart, but it has to be addressed) if there is an element of racism in some of the comments regarding Reid, if there is, that is a total disgrace.

I hope I am Victor, but I believe that thought has to be aired. To think it and not to put it out there for debate would imo be spineless.

Why, I said there could be an element of racism in some the unjust criticism Reid receives, and there could, if that, in your opinion makes me a crank then i suggest you have a word with yourself.

I very much doubt Valley Parade is a racist free zone.

Thought it was a reasonable performance against decent opponents, who didn't come here for a point.

Think we are just going to have to take it as a given that the opposition is going to score from their 1st attack, as it seems to happen at every home, that was once again illustrated yesterday.

Another poor goal to concede though, the shot should've been comfortably saved by McLaughlin, and it isn't the 1st time I've said that, Wolves and Coventry are two other examples off the top of my head. They are crucial errors at crucial times, which is costing us points.

Can't believe the earlier comment about McBurnie, I think he has shown a lot of promise, and it says it all, that a 17 year old doesn't look out of place at this level. It was a great run in the 2nd half, just a pity he didn't show much composure at the end, as it would've been a fine goal.

I thought Reid played pretty well yesterday and put some good balls in. To be fair he looked dead on his feet when he came off, but I thought we lacked impetus after that, as we didn't have somebody to take the ball forward 30 or 40 yards, and put the opposition on the back foot.

As for Wells, to sign for our local rivals is bad enough, but to refuse to play for the club, that probably saved your football league career, then any little respect we had left for him has quickly evaporated.
