Rawdon’s Sam Tordoff will return for a second season in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) after announcing a deal to stay with the Factory MG KX Momentum Racing Team.

The 24-year-old will race alongside two-time champion Jason Plato as he looks to build on a highly successful debut year.

In 2013, Tordoff finished as Top Rookie in the Championship and sixth overall.

The drivers who finished ahead of him in a highly competitive championship were the five past champions.

Tordoff scored his maiden pole position and won at Snetterton Race Circuit, Norfolk in August, while securing a further six podium finishes.

Tordoff will once again be supported by the KX Akademy as he retains his place from 2013.

The Akademy will support five drivers throughout the 2014 season in various championships across the BTCC support packages.

The drivers receive tuition, advice and promotion, as well as funding towards their chosen championship.

Sam said: “I am absolutely delighted to return to MG KX Momentum Racing and to the KX Akademy. This outcome is the perfect scenario and the continuation I have of keeping the same people around me for 2014 will no doubt be highly beneficial.

“My goal for the 2014 season is to return to the BTCC for a shot at the title. Last year was a learning year where I gained invaluable experience, began to understand an NTGC car and adapt to the race craft. I will now return to the BTCC as a better driver to fight for wins and achieve consistency, which will put me much closer to the championship battle.”

The 30-round British Touring Car Championship is televised live on ITV4 and begins at Brands Hatch Race Circuit, Kent on March 29 and 30.
