The lack of a sponsor, plus a limited amount of cash, means the West Yorkshire sportshall athletics trials are to be held on the same day at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford.

The under-11, under-13 and under-15 trials normally take place on different days but this time the under-11s will be staged on the morning of Saturday, January 18 (10.00), with the under-13s and under-15s following in the afternoon (2.30).

To ensure the competitions can go ahead, organisers Sportshall Associates have asked county bodies if they can pay £150 per under-11 team and £150 for an under-13 and under-15 team.

To make sure costs are covered, entry fees are going up by £1 to £4 but that does include free admission for athletes and parents into the sports centre.

The regional event timetable remains the same, except there will be no under-13 high jump this year.

Schools and clubs in the area have been e-mailed but if anyone would like an entry form, they can be found on the Bingley Harriers website at www.bingleyharriers. org. uk or e-mail aoates@blueyonder.co. uk for more information.

Bingley Harriers are the West Yorkshire county organisers and also arrange the West Yorkshire trials and the teams to go forward to the West Yorkshire Championships and UK Championships.

If anyone can help on the day by setting up or helping out on the events, they can contact Alan or Christine Oates via the e-mail address above.

West Yorkshire will also be required to provide five officials or parents to help during the regional final at the Bonus Arena in Hull on Sunday, February 9. Any offers can be made to the same address.
