Bradford Park Avenue's assistant manager Mark Hume has been happy with the start that recent signing Paul Beesley has made and feels the striker will be in the goals once he settles.

Beesley was captured from neighbouring Conference North rivals Harrogate Town, although he was playing for their neighbours Harrogate Railway in the Evo-Stik League on dual registration forms.

Hume said: “Paul has worked very hard and it’s been difficult for him because since he came in we haven’t been at our best. He has been workmanlike but has also put himself about.

“He has done well. If he had come in two months ago - around the time we played the Kidderminster games - he would have got a lot of goals. We were playing some very good football at the time and creating lots of chances.”

Beesley made his debut against Histon and opened his account at Stockport County on Boxing Day, also starting at North Ferriby United last Saturday.

He was due to play his fourth game in New Year’s Day’s reverse fixture against Stockport but that was postponed.

Hume had hoped to have another new signing for that game but didn’t have the deal tied up in time.

He and Bradford boss John Deacey have a short-list of players they are trying to land, and Hume has been working around the clock.

Deacey was out of the country on a short break over the holiday period but that did not affect the hunt for additions to the squad.

Deacey should be back in the dug out tomorrow, flight delays allowing. He is due back from Australia today, so should be back at Hume’s side for the home game against Worcester City.

Hume said: “I’ve been at it all day, every day trying to get four players in. There is one that John and I have been working on for weeks but nothing is happening just yet. Players and clubs usually wait until the new year to make changes.

“There are a couple (of deals) in the pipeline for when John gets back because we really need to strengthen. We need four or five players because we don’t want the same thing as last year when we hit a brick wall.

“The end of the season was an anti-climax - a bit like now when we can see it coming but don’t have enough options in the squad to make changes and freshen things up.

“We are going on with the same side because there is no depth in the squad.”
