Farsley 4 Ossett Albion 1

Farsley consolidated their third place in Division One North with a comfortable victory over Ossett Albion.

They struggled early on as Ossett threatened to make it a close derby but Farsley came out for the second half with the bit between their teeth and dominated.

They had to come from a goal down as Albion took an 11th-minute lead. Centre back Tyrone Gay galloped from deep inside his own half and played a neat one-two with striker Dale Kelly before stroking in a low shot.

The visitors made it difficult as the game descended into a spell of attrition but that lasted just ten minutes.

The home side made the score 1-1 when Aiden Savory’s through-ball was reached by Matty James just before Albion’s keeper Ashley Connor. James’s touch was stronger and he followed up with a low, angled drive.

Farsley began to take control and their reward came three minutes into first-half stoppage time.

A quick counter-attack saw Savory set Adam Priestley free and he raced clear before laying a square pass for Savory to slot in from close range.

The second half belonged to Neil Parsley’s men as they pushed Ossett back. It took them a while to breach the defence again but Savory sprinted through in the 72nd minute and netted a low shot across Connor.

Two minutes from time Farsley skipper Rob O’Brien put the gloss on the win by drilling home from the edge of the area after another great move.

Parsley said: “I thought we dominated spells without really creating a great many chances.

“It is a very solid start to the new year and we will push on from this win.

“I thought the pitch stood up really well considering the conditions.

“There were a lot of games off but ours was never in any doubt despite the heavy rain.”
