Bradford Bulls: Tom Olbison looks to conjure up spirit of 2012

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Tom Olbison says he is trying to block out the club's financial problems and accept that such difficulties are "part and parcel of life" Tom Olbison says he is trying to block out the club's financial problems and accept that such difficulties are "part and parcel of life"

Tom Olbison believes the uncertainty surrounding the Bulls can help galvanise Francis Cummins’ squad the way it did in 2012.

During the most difficult campaign in the club’s recent history, the Bulls produced a rousing response to their off-field troubles.

They would have made the play-offs with something to spare had they not been docked six points for entering administration but Olbison believes a similar spirit can help the Bulls again.

He said: “Can we use this situation to our advantage? Yes, definitely.

“If you’re a bit frustrated then that’s your chance to do your bit for the club.

“We’ve got to go out there to perform and play our part to help the club out of this situation.

“At the end of the day, Franny’s told us a couple of times, there’s nothing that we can do about what goes on financially, it’s just about how we perform and that’s what we get paid to do.”

Now well over a year on from when the Bulls went into administration, Olbison says that previous experience has stood him in good stead.

The 22-year-old said: “With me being a bit older than the first time it happened, you do learn how to deal with it better.

“But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s there in the back of your mind. You’ve just got to try and block it out the best you can.

“Even in your downtime, you’re still thinking about what I can do to make myself better for next year and what we can do to stop a similar situation happening.

“It’s not something that you want to get used to, having all these difficulties around, but it’s part and parcel of life.

“Whether it’s rugby or any other job out there, nearly everyone’s struggling. It’s something that you can’t beat yourself up about and say ‘why is it always me?’ “It’s far from that because it’s the same for everyone. There are always difficulties in life and you’ve just got to get on with it.”

* Talks over the club’s proposed change of ownership are expected to resume early next week.

This club will survive because of players like him who want to play for the club and make it better. If only the owners present and past had that attitude we wouldn't be in this mess. If we do survive we will need to look to our youngsters to pull us through as we won't have the cash to throw at expensive signings that will want to be off as soon as things get tough. All spare money should be spent on building up the junior development as they are our long term future. End of short term thinking please!

100% agree raise. Players doing what only they can do, with vigour and commitment, Fans supporting those players as only Fans can do (unless they win the Lotto!) and Directors/ Managers doing their level best, with what hands they are dealt, to facilitate all these things happening!
Happy New Year and COYBs!

Keep posting postives raise.
All us that have known the truth for a long time only seek its address.
This 22 yea old is showng true Dunkirk spirit.
A man I would have gladly shared a trench with at the Sommei In another era.

Nobody on here wants the Bulls to fail

We are just angry at those that have done their best to ensure it.

A new year of peace.

And slow build back.

Every vote you have received well deserved xx

Wigan away 2012, what an away day that was! The fact the we beat Wigan on thier own turf was one thing, but the celebrations afterwards were amazing. A day that, as a supporter, I'll never forget. If we can re-capture that 'back to the wall' spirit like Tom's saying, we'll have a cracking season.
