Young Bradford Bulls pretender Oliver Roberts still looking and learning from his big hero Sam Burgess

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Oliver Roberts has watched the career of Sam Burgess, pictured, with avid interest Oliver Roberts has watched the career of Sam Burgess, pictured, with avid interest

Oliver Roberts says he has been inspired by former Bulls star Sam Burgess as he gears up for a big campaign.

The highly-rated back-rower has followed Burgess’s career since he rose to prominence at Bradford as a 17-year-old in 2006.

Burgess has since emerged as arguably the best forward in the world since moving to South Sydney Rabbitohs ahead of the 2010 campaign.

His awesome display in England’s heartbreaking World Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of New Zealand enhanced his reputation further.

Roberts, who turned 19 on Christmas Eve, said: “I came to Bradford to watch Sam Burgess when I was younger and on scholarship at Salford.

“I remember him coming flying out of the line trying to smash anyone he could.

“He made a brilliant impact and I always hoped to be able to do something like that myself. He was one of the best players in Super League when he played here and he’s now one of the best in the NRL.

“He has it all really in that he can put in a big hit and he can run a good line.

“He carries the ball very strongly and he leads the way in the forwards.

“He’s killing it every week in the NRL and is definitely one of the best players in the world. He’s certainly an inspiration to me.”

Roberts made his Super League debut off the bench at St Helens in June and featured again at Wigan a month later.

He did not look out of place and, having represented England’s Academy side earlier this year, he is aiming to make the step up into the second-tier England Knights.

He added: “I’m 19 now so the Knights is the next step for me.

“My goal now is to push for the Knights and then maybe the England senior side one day.

“I would love to represent my country at the highest level.

“It’s just about playing some first-team games for the Bulls and then seeing where I go from there. Hopefully I’ll be knocking on the door.”

* Bulls players and staff are expected to be paid today following a delay over the Christmas and Bank Holiday period.

Bulls staff paid late. Just what they need after being made redundant.
Still no answers just plenty of unanswered questions at the club.

Companies house for example still lists Calvert, Moore and Watt as directors. Have they resigned or just threatened it?

The whole situation is a right mess. There are echo's of Gibb and Rhodes from the BCFC admin No2.

A fallout at the top, and two parties both wanting to go in different directions.

We have Khan who owns the club but clearly doesn't want to, then we have Calvert, Moore and Watt who want the club but fell after a full review of the books have taken place Khan is asking for way too much.

Stalemate, the casualty being the club and it's fans.

A legal battle will destroy any preparation for the new season and only make the RFL and Super League more likely to punish the Bulls for the hassle that is being caused and omit them from the 2015 Super League lineup wether they finish outside the bottom 2 anyhow.

The club is still reeling from the first admin with crowds dropping off as people are dissolusioned (Same happened at BCFC) a second admin will only worsen that. (As it did at BCFC, it took many years to get the fans back onside and nearly a decade of rebuilding to start looking up rather than down).

all the fans want to know is there any chance we will not compete in super league 2014 if this is not sorted asap?
its ok the RFL saying players will be paid ... the debts are still there and the club cannot make money to pay these off and make a profit .
the bulls will always be a business that does not make a profit ... who in reality would want to take over a club like this ( or any business )
i realy do think we will go into administration again :(

In regards to Companies House, although documents can be filed online, they're all checked manually by staff. There's only been one working day (Friday 27th, they work monday to friday), with likely largely reduced staff numbers, since the Directors announced they were leaving. I would imagine that even if they filed the required paperwork on Christmas Eve, it won't have been looked at yet and so CH won't have been changed.

"Note, due to the possible need for manual processing, documents will only be examined during Companies House's working hours of 7.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Friday (UK time)."

Lapdancer, please read the statement, clue is "staff" players are a separate entity, the article states "players and staff "and the staff have been paid on time. So the statement is untrue. Which players have said they didn't get paid?

Well that ended that. Asking for hard evidence rather than just rumour seems to shut up all the voices, reasonable or otherwise!
