Bradford’s Emelye O’Brien has become the first competitor from the JKS association and only the second ever Leeds Karate Academy member to be selected to represent the English Karate Federation internationally.
The teenager, who has a string of national titles to her name, will be competing in the European Karate Federation Junior and Cadets Championships in 2014.
The event will be held between February 7 to 9 in Lisbon, Portugal and is the top event in Europe for competitors under the age of 21.
Emelye is representing the England kumite squad in the female cadets +54kgs category. She is one of only 14 karateka selected from all styles and association for the event.
Club instructor Matt Price, who was the first Leeds Karate Academy member to represent England at this level, said: “I am extremely proud of Emily and would like to congratulate her on this achievement and wish her all the best for the championships”.
