Guiseley boss Mark Bower is keen to keep his players on their toes ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy tie with Bradford Park Avenue.

The expectations of them progressing through to the last 16 of the competition rocketed after last Monday’s result.

The Lions went to Horsfall Stadium and cruised to a 3-0 win over their Conference North neighbours.

Guiseley have home advantage in this weekend's second-round tie, but Bower feels that will count for nothing in what he expects will be a tough derby cup tie.

“I don’t think there is any psychological advantage to be gained from the other night because they will be two very different games," said Bower.

The league victory took the Lions above their rivals in the league table, which could make Avenue doubly determined to ensure they do not slip to a second defeat.

But Guiseley will be on cloud nine after stretching their unbeaten run to a round dozen, with ten victories and just two draws in climbing to eighth.

The Lions went into Monday night’s league clash on the back of a 1-0 win over Boston United, another club above them in the league, but with Bower making two enforced changes.

Bower said: “We lost Jack Rea and Adam Lockwood through injury, and they were arguably our two best players against Boston, but Jake Lawlor and Ben Parker came in and did well.

“Jake grew into the game and Ben looked like a Rolls Royce in that centre-back position. They were outstanding, superb. They matched the performances of everyone else on the night - I thought it was a real team effort.

“It was played on a difficult pitch, and Avenue are like us in that they like to get the ball down and play football. I have watched them several times this season and I’ve been impressed.

“We have got Rhys Meynell suspended and I think they have a couple of players serving bans so even the starting line-ups will be different.

“I think they (Bradford) are one of the best teams in our division, so we won’t be taking anything lightly. We will have to show the same application we did on Monday if we are going to get anything from Saturday.

“John (Deacey) is still 2-1 up in the head-to-head this season so there is a lot to play for.”
