Bradford No 1 maintained their unbeaten start to the season at Leeds in Division One of the Yorkshire Inter District League, but their 100 per cent record was tarnished with a 3-3 draw.

Wayne Cooper, having won his previous 31 consecutive frames for the team, was finally beaten and unusually for Cooper lost both frames.

Opponent John Gillen played superbly well on the night and won the first 78-11 with breaks of 25 and 53, following up with a 38 break in the next to take it 71-40 and put the hosts 2-0 up.

Kevin Firth won both frames against Tony Massey, 60-31 and 62-45, which included a break of 46, with Mark Slater putting Bradford 3-2 ahead with breaks of 25 and 33 for a 72-47 win against Lewis Gillen who himself made a 30 break.

The final frame went to youngster Gillen, showing plenty of character to comfortably take the last frame 78-30.

Bradford No.2 enjoyed a good 4-2 win at Wakefield No.1 in Division Two, Gareth Green putting the visitors in control with 66-30 and 75-26 wins over Andy Dean.

The match was soon level however, Boover Singh losing out to Wayne Haigh 61-26 and 56-42 before Hanif Rafiq completed the win for Bradford with wins against Richard Marsden 53-14 and 62-14.

The Billiards side are in action on Saturday (7.30pm) at Great Horton Cricket Club, where they entertain Huddersfield No.1.
