Outclassed Bradford & Bingley sink in mudbath

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Brett Mitchell scored a consolation try for Bees Brett Mitchell scored a consolation try for Bees

The home side adapted to the atrocious conditions far better than the Bees and were on top in all departments.

It took three minutes for Huddersfield to get over the whitewash as their pack shoved the visitors back behind the line, with Ben Hoyle claiming the score.

The ankle-deep mud and constant rain made handling difficult but the intelligent kicking of the hosts kept Bees pinned in their own 22.

Any attempt to counter foundered as the Wagon Lane side failed to gain distance with their own kicking game and turned the ball over in contact too frequently.

Huddersfield doubled their advantage on six minutes as former Bees player Giles Hetherington kicked over the defence, allowing centre Tom Owen to skid in for the score.

A Hodson penalty on 21 minutes pushed the gap to 15 points but the visitors were at least beginning to steady their defence.

The Bees line-out began to falter and, as the half progressed, the home pack were increasingly dominant with their driving maul.

On 35 minutes, Hudders-field were rewarded with a score from No 8 Nick Sharpe.

The sides turned round at 20-0 before Sharpe crashed over to claim the bonus-point score after 56 minutes.

The Bees then conceded two further scores, with Ben Morrell touching down and Sharpe claiming his hat trick. It was now 37-0 but the score seemed to galvanise the visitors.

For the final 15 minutes the Bees were the better side. Their improved performance was rewarded with two scores as Josh Greenfield and then Brett Mitchell crossed.

Huddersfield added a final five-pointer through Elliot Hodgson between those scores and their 32-point winning margin was a fair reflection of their dominance.
