Mark Bower aims to avoid award curse at Guiseley
Guiseley boss Mark Bower should escape the curse of the manager of the month award as the Lions prepare to host Selby Town in the West Riding County Cup quarter-finals.
Tomorrow night’s tie will be low-key in comparison to the next one, with Guiseley and Conference North neighbours Bradford Park Avenue paired against each other in today’s FA Trophy second-round draw.
The clubs had been keen to avoid each other after reaching the last 32 of the competition by both defeating Conference Premier outfits at the weekend.
The FA Trophy clash will take place at Nethermoor on Saturday, December 14 – just five days after they meet at Horsfall Stadium in the league.
Avenue have already beaten the Lions twice this season. John Deacey’s men won the reverse league fixture 2-0 and also knocked Guiseley out of the FA Cup, winning that tie 2-1.
But that was before Bower found his feet as manager and embarked on the nine-game unbeaten run that saw him named manager of the month for November.
The Lions won three league games, two Trophy ties and a West Riding County Cup tie, drawing their only other fixture in that period.
The Conference North outfit should prove too strong for Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One visitors Selby tonight.
Albion Sports make the short journey to Ossett Albion in one of the other quarter-finals, while holders FC Halifax Town travel to Harrogate Town.
Meanwhile, Thackley will be looking to reclaim second place in the NCE Premier Division as they travel to struggling Armthorpe Welfare.
