Adam Henry hit the ground running on his first day as a Bulls player and declared: “I feel at home already.”

The 22-year-old centre arrived in England at the weekend and trained with his new team-mates at Tong for the first time yesterday.

Auckland-born Henry, who has joined the Bulls from NRL champions Sydney Roosters, is lodging with Adrian Purtell.

He said: “It was a very long flight but it’s great to get over to England for the first time.

“I guess there were a few nerves and I’m still adjusting to the time difference but I was pretty excited this morning to get up and meet all the boys.

“It’s just a normal morning for the boys but they took it pretty easy on me and seem like a great bunch of guys. I’ve done a little bit of skills and weights, so it’s been good.

“I want to put in a lot of hard work and hopefully put myself in the frame to be selected for round one. The season starts in February so I need to be ready.”

Henry played for the New Zealand Warriors and was part of their under-20s side which won the championship in 2011, with him scoring a try in a dramatic 31-30 Grand Final win over North Queensland Cowboys.

The former Junior Kiwi then made the switch to Sydney and played regularly for the Jets in the New South Wales Cup before coming to the attention of the Bulls following a recommendation from ex-Bradford coach Brian Smith.

Now he is ready to test himself in Super League and follow in the footsteps of several other New Zealanders who proved huge successes at Odsal.

Henry, who looks in excellent physical condition, believes moving in with Purtell should help him to adapt to his new surroundings.

“Adrian was in the same situation as me, although he’s been here for two years now, so he knows exactly what I’m going through,” said the Bulls new boy.

“He’s definitely made me feel welcome and took me to a few local spots on Saturday to test the waters.

“We watched the World Cup final in a bar and it was good fun, despite New Zealand getting beaten!

“Being here is definitely a step in the right direction for me and my career.

“It’s different, both weather-wise and the schedule we have, but I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge.”
