Ricky Ravenhill is keeping his options open over the prospect of staying with Northampton.

Aidy Boothroyd has made it clear that he wants to hang on to the out-of-favour City midfielder, who has opened his Cobblers loan spell with back-to-back wins.

Ravenhill is thrilled to be back in the thick of the action again after being stuck on the sidelines at Valley Parade – but he will not be rushed into any decision on his immediate future.

He said: “We’ve not spoken about it yet. I want to get this month over, hopefully play as many games as I can and then weigh things up.

“But it’s a good club and I’m enjoying playing football. It’s great to be playing again – you work hard in training all week and you want something to look forward to at the end of it.”

Ravenhill made his debut in the FA Cup first-round win at Bishop’s Stortford and then played his part in last week’s victory over Fleetwood, which turned the League Two table on its head.

His no-nonsense presence has already earned the manager’s plaudits, with Booth-royd saying: “I thought he was outstanding and he’s exactly what we need.

“He gets the job done and allows other players to do their thing.

“He is somebody I would love to keep because he’s good in the dressing room and he’s good on the pitch. Players listen to him.”

The switch to Sixfields has seen Ravenhill reunited with Matt Duke, who has been an ever-present in Northampton’s goal since he quit Valley Parade in the summer.

Ravenhill, whose own City deal runs out at the end of the season, said: “He’s been playing very well by all accounts and has made some good saves. But you know he’s a good keeper.

“Matt was in the same situation as me. He’s at the stage of his career when he needs to be playing regularly and Northampton have given him the chance to do that.

“That’s exactly what I want. I just needed games and if that wasn’t happening at Bradford for whatever reason, then you have to look elsewhere.”

Having lost out to City in last season’s play-off final, the Cobblers currently find themselves at the bottom of the division. The last-minute win over Fleetwood was only their third.

But Ravenhill does not expect to see them struggling too much longer and said: “The gaffer’s really positive and it’s all pretty upbeat.

“If you went in the dressing room not knowing the situation, you would never guess we were bottom.

“I think there was a bit of a hangover from last year but there are some very good players here.

“From what I’ve seen, this team will soon be moving up the table.”
