Jason Johnson scored his first goal for Bingley Bees to set up a 3-0 win at Thirsk Seconds in the Yorkshire League.

Robbie Manning and Stephen Booth were also on target to leave the Bees men third in Division Five North and their opponents third from bottom.

Bingley were hot favourites going into the match and they dominated the opening stages without being able to open the scoring.

Thirsk then slowly got into the game but their hopes were dashed in the 24th minute when the keeper failed to clear a shot and Johnson pounced to tuck the ball into the net.

The Bees cranked up the pressure with some fine midfield work and strong distribution and this led to Manning doubling the score.

The match was effectively over two minutes later when man of the match Booth put Bingley three up with a well-taken goal.

Numerous chances went the Bees’ way in the second half, hitting the post twice and seeing the Thirsk keeper push three more shots onto the woodwork, but the score remained unchanged.

Bingley’s ladies hosted Premier Division leaders Driffield and the match went to form with a 4-1 win for the visitors.

Driffield took advantage of a penalty corner to edge ahead but the Bees responded with a similar goal as Mel Burgess finished off a move also involving Sarah Kellett and Jo Kellett.

Another penalty corner enabled Driffield to restore their lead before half-time and they went on to add two more goals after the interval despite some outstanding saves from keeper Kirsty Matthews.

Bingley Seconds also lost to Driffield as they travelled with only ten players and were beaten 3-1 by the hosts’ third team in Division Four.

Driffield took an early lead but the gallant Bees struck back to quickly equalise through Jane Sharkey following a pass from Cath Wood.

Bingley keeper Rachel Fuller saved a penalty flick before the interval but was beaten twice in the second half despite the best efforts of player of the match Sarah Robertshaw.
