Travel-sick Keighley beaten on road again
Bridlington 20 Keighley 16
Keighley remain winless on their travels as they went down to second-from-bottom Bridlington.
Playing with a strong wind at their backs, the hosts’ pressure earned an early penalty converted by scrum half Steve Mellonby.
What followed was an arm wrestle in midfield between two committed packs.
Bridlington were content to kick and chase down-field, while Keighley tried to play open rugby. Brid’s pressure paid off with a try wide out for winger Gary Stevens.
Towards the end of the half, big prop Ezra Luxton charged through a gap to increase the lead, Mellonby adding the extras.
Ben Blackwell landed two penalties in the second half to put Keighley back in the game but the visitors were starved of possession.
Driving play up the middle, a forward-orientated attack into the Keighley 22 was rewarded with some slick passing and a try for winger Will Davies.
Keighley replied with a further penalty from Blackwell.
Once again the Brid forwards took control and their aggression at the ruck disrupted Keighley’s options.
As the final whistle approached, a half-break by wing forward Shawn Minikin found Adam Horsfall in support and he scored wide out.
Blackwell managed the difficult conversion but the hosts claimed the spoils.
