Bradford City DVD enough to make a grown man cry
It must have been a bit of dust. Or maybe I’ll put it down to the lack of sleep – thanks to a greyhound who insists on jumping on the duvet at silly o’clock.
But the lad clocked something in my eye as we watched an advanced copy of the “We made history” DVD of Bradford City’s exploits from last season.
“Mum, Dad’s crying, ha ha!” He gleefully bellowed through the house, deliberately oblivious to the detritus that had quite clearly lodged its way beneath the pupil.
Don’t be daft, of course I wasn’t sniffling. Why would you get remotely emotional re-living one of the greatest episodes in the club’s history?
Why would you well up watching again the sheer raw emotion that followed the penalty shoot-out wins over Wigan or Arsenal?
Why would a lump appear in the throat when Carl McHugh bulleted that corner into the back of the net against Villa. Or, indeed, when James Hanson rose highest of them all in the second half of the second leg?
And as for the play-off win at Burton and those three Wembley strikes against Northampton, don’t expect to be moved in the slightest ... But just to be on the safe side from falling air particles and the like, I might suggest wearing a pair of dark shades before viewing. Or keep a box of Kleenex to hand.
The long-awaited DVD is a time capsule to capture a season that will never, ever happen again. The main event lasts just under an hour and features all the main moments accompanied by Tim Thornton’s radio commentary.
The mix of pictures and words ties together extremely well. Nit-pickers will spot the timing is slightly out on a goal or two but nothing to hinder the enjoyment. Some of the camera work varies from ground to ground but, if anything, that conveys the raw nature of some of the League Two venues.
For the real Bradford City aficionado – some might say, anorak – there is also a full-length film which details every single goal from every single game. It’s all there.
Those who have already pledged to buy will be notified by e-mail before it goes on sale. Just make sure you wear eye protection when watching.
